Nice to hear some comments from Bell, excellent credit given to the OL. Great win, very proud day.

Also, pretty impressive about Bell squatting over 600 lbs...damn.

Congrats on the win and good luck the rest of the way. I think these two programs are going to be the real deal in the years to come.

Great comeback by YSU, but Bell was too much early on...

Agreed, great game. Best of luck to the Penguins.

Any defense that endures 90 plays will be out of gas, regardless of what some think. Great win by the Trees!.

They played better in the second half and made some great plays. In the end, they did enough. Still, if they make more stops on third down, they don't have to endure 90 plays! I heard this excuse over and over and over again from Colt fans years ago, and then people finally realized the defense just wasn't that good. We have some great defensive playmakers. They have to make more stops if we want to compete for a MVC title!

Agreed. 90 plays is obviously a ton of plays for the defense, but they have to make the stops to cut drives before they can extend to that 8-12 play range which keeps the D out there for a sustained period of time. YSU was converting at will for the most part, and those sustained drives allowed them to rack up the time of possession and gain such a lopsided advantage in plays.

We have to at least hold them to FGs on occasion and we didn't. It was either a three and out, turnover or a touchdown for the most part.

We had a 34-14 lead at one point. The offense has to do a better job, too.

The lack of offense in the second half had nothing to do with it, I see. I guess my two state championship rings aren't worth crap.

Lol relax...

At the end of the day, if you're giving up 90 plays... the defense is generally a contributing factor to that number. If you can't make stops on third- and occassionally, fourth downs, the defense is defintely at fault for allowing YSU to run that many offensive plays.

That's the sort of thing I was talking about earlier. So we should all just bow before you're almighty knowledge?

So you think the D had a good game then?

Clearly the offense could have done more, but you're the one who said we needed to grind it out with some long scoring drives. Yeah, easier said than done.

I think it's clear both sides can still get better. We were a first half team today. For whatever reason we let them stay in it, but we pulled it out in the end and that's also a good growing experience.

The defense initially couldn't stop YSU's run game, and then YSU was able to seemingly pick apart ISU's defense with the hurry-up passing game in the 2nd half. The defense had a very poor game today IMO and only have to look in the mirror at why YSU was able to keep the ball as much as they did and run off that many plays.

I like Trent's comments after the game. "We found a way to win a football game..." That is the most important part of this. We're winning these games. We won the close ones last year, for the most part, let's make sure we do it again this year.

Breathe. Football is a game of perspective, everyone sees it from a different angle. I think both sides are at fault because clearly if the defense would have stopped YSU more consistently we wouldn't be talk about this at all...but that offense has to do its part as well...

Aside from the slew of big plays ISU was able to generate, YSU's defense was actually pretty decent today. I thought they did a pretty good job in coverage and didn't give ISU a whole lot. But, when you give up several plays over 50 yards that eventually go for touchdowns, you're definitely digging yourself a major hole there.

True... their rushing defense was Swiss cheese. Shakir did a good job of hiding behind the offensive line and then hitting the hole really freAking hard.

This is what I know a ball control offense is the best defense.

This is what I know a ball control offense is the best defense.

But the best offense is the one that puts it in the endzone...as my old high school coach said "Men there are exactly 85 ways to win a football game but there's only one that guarantees victory, more points."

Indeed. But any coach loves having the big plays with guaranteed points. You just have to count on your D to make the stops after that. ISU's offense was out of sync in the 2nd half and YSU really tightened up their coverage and made things difficult, but the Sycamores' defense didn't do themselves any favours with their inability to stop YSU from sustaining drives and moving the ball at will.
