Sixth? Granted it looks like they were just a couple votes from fourth, but still. Guess they think last year was a fluke. I hope that all of our guys print this out and hang it in their lockers.

This is the first time EVER that I've thought ISU football got screwed on a pre-season Valley prediction.

We'll show 'em.
 
I find it interesting that two teams that we absolutely decimated last season are ahead of us in the rankings. Not sure I get the love affair with Illinois State - are they really going to improve that much? It's possible, but this poll assumes that we are not going to improve at all. Same with SDSU. Oh well, don't really mean much...

We just have to go out and beat people on the field. I would love to go back to the early part of the 2000's and see how long it took SIU to get some respect. Remember, they used to be our only guaranteed win.

I'd put that ranking on the bulletin board ALL SEASON!!!
 
Dang that's lower than I thought...most knowlegeable fans had us in the top 4 instead of thinking "Well it's Indiana State"...very suprised, still doesnt matter though...We all know what this team can do so we will just have to prove them wrong...again lol.

Maybe we did get screwed, but as it would have it in the MVC the past couple of seasons (in many sports) the Sycamores have been screwed. The one thing that can keep this from happening and keep our fan base from becoming outraged by voting is consistent success. You don't get picked and then finish last in the MVFC for the last however many season and all the sudden get respect - even if the numbers say your better than a 6th place team.

I think we all learned this lesson last year in basketball and I was one of the biggest cheerleaders behind us being screwed, not only in pre-season/pre-tourney polls but heck even after the fact. You want respect your going to have to prove your success is sustainable or your not going to get it, that simple.

Why you think the Indiana State Track and XC teams continue to get picked to win the MVC? They don't always have the best teams on paper - but everyone knows without a doubt that the Sycamores will be in the mix at the end of the season. It's called sustained greatness - do it and you'll get respect, don't do it and you'll continue to get the short end of the stick. I expect similar pre-season voting results in basketball.

It gives us something to get fired up about - but no longer worth it in my book. Discuss away!
 
I'm good with them not being picked last and having some lower expectations. It's a long climb out of the basement, but hopefully we over achieve big time this year. Do have to say though that I don't get SDSU being that high. Guess I don't know much about their team, but I didn't know they were that strong.
 
Get fans to the games and you'll win. Get a road contingent together for away games, too. UNI players have, for years, cited the well-travelled UNI fans as great inspiration at away games.

Would someone please explain to me the love affair with Illinois State? Their defense was so bad last year that I could have passed for 300 yards against it. Did they really get that much better?

I have come to the conclusion that they are the sexy pick of the last few years
