I'm betting most of you simply don't like Twitter anymore because you don't like the owner and who he is supporting.
Facebook is nothing but bots, political nonsense, and ads too; although the feeds option where I can just see what my friends have posted is the best thing they ever added.
Instagram was my favorite SM platform, but hardly anyone I know uses it which made it boring, to where I finally deleted mine.
Snapchat is just dumb and I literally don't see the point in it.
Til Tok. Yeah I'll be honest I'm not too big of a fan of the group that might be spying on me on there (the Communist Chinese government), so I've never had one and never will.
They literally told you why they didn't like twatter and you weren't okay with their answer? It's the algo. Repeat, it's the algorithm. It is designed to be very sticky and to press your emotional buttons. You are presented with certain topics and content even if you don't want it.
All for-profit social media also sells your information to hundreds of parties. Hell, X just changed their TOS last week that goes into effect on November 15th:
“By submitting, posting or displaying Content on or through the Services, you grant us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to make your Content available to the rest of the world,” the terms of service said, which includes the right to analyze any of that content “including, for example, for use with and training of our machine learning and artificial intelligence models, whether generative or another type.”
So now in addition to selling it, they can use it to create AI personas off of your profile. That's dangerous and you have no recourse.
If anyone wants to see what algo-free social media looks like, here is my Nostr profile:
You start at ZERO and you get ONLY the content of the people and topics you follow. Like I mentioned in my post above, you own your ID and content (you can also get "zapped" Bitcoin if people enjoy it) and your private key is used to access any application built on the protocol. Here is a website that has all of the things built on it so far:
nostrapps.com
One caveat... as it's open, decentralized and uncontrolled, there are no guardrails, no censorship, and is a bit of what the Internet used to be before it was heavily regulated.
