Welcome back to our fourth installment of "Where Are They Now," where we catch up with a former Sycamore basketball player to see what they've been up to since leaving Indiana State. We know it's been awhile since our last installment, but we think we've made up for it! In this edition, we got together with Sycamore great Nate Green, a hard nosed combo guard that helped lead the Sycamores to their first Missouri Valley Conference title and NCAA Tournament appearance in 1999-2000 since the Larry Bird-led squads of the 70s.

A true ballhawk, Green seemed to have a nose for the ball and came up with the big play whenever the Sycamores needed it. Starting in 108 of his 114 career games for the Sycamores, Nate had career averages of 10.4 ppg, 4.4 apg, 4.5 rpg, 2.1 spg and a block per game -- the epitome of a stat sheet stuffer!

SycamoreHoops.com: Since leaving Indiana State, what have you been up to?

Nate Green: Enjoying life, starting a family! And yes, I did get my degree.

SycamoreHoops.com: Are you still playing basketball professionally or recreationally?

Nate Green: Playing professionally overseas. Australia, NBDL, Israel, and Italy for the last 6 years.

SycamoreHoops.com: If professionally, who are you currently playing for? Statistics?

Nate Green: After 6 years in Italy, I would say my average is about 15 points, 5 rebounds and 4 steals per game.

SycamoreHoops.com: What was your favorite on-the-court memory or game?

Nate Green: Game winning 3 point shot in Game 1 of the 2006 Italian Championship

SycamoreHoops.com: What were some of your favorite moments at Indiana State?

Nate Green: Without question beating IU at Assembly Hall. And winning a Championship at Hulman Center in 2000. But I also enjoyed all the behind scenes moment with my teammates.

SycamoreHoops.com: Is there anything you miss about Indiana State? If so, what?

Nate Green: The buzz of the town when we started really winning my Junior and Senior years.

SycamoreHoops.com: Do you keep in touch with any of the players or coaches from your teams? If so, who?

Nate Green: Absolutely. I still ask Coach Waltman for advice and have throughout the years. I also keep in touch with Menser, Renn, Block, Giesen, Luchetti, Wells, Hart to name a few of the players. And of course Coach Lansing, Coach Bender, Coach Ray, and Coach Richardson.

SycamoreHoops.com: Are you still connected to the program?

Nate Green: Not too much. I'm gone 9 months out of the year overseas so it makes it difficult.

SycamoreHoops.com: What is your opinion of the current state of the program?

Nate Green: From what I hear, they are on the right track and I wish them nothing but success.

SycamoreHoops.com: Are there any players on the current roster that impress you? Who? Why?

Nate Green: The only one I really have heard of will be the newcomer Jake Kelly. With his size and ability he should make a big impact in the MVC.

SycamoreHoops.com: How have you seen the program changed since you left?

Nate Green: Obviously there have been a lot of staff changes. I was deeply sad to see Coach Waltman go. But I know Coach McKenna is doing a great job.

SycamoreHoops.com: What are your expectations for the upcoming season?

Nate Green: This community is blue collar and they want a blue collar team. I just hope for a hard working, hard nosed team that can attain success, build confidence, and grow. If they do those things, the town will be behind them.

SycamoreHoops.com: Is there anything else you want to share with the Sycamore fans reading this?

Nate Green: A big thank you for all the support in my 4 years at STATE, and an even bigger thank you for accepting me into your community after my college career.

Thanks to big Nate for doing the interview. Here are some highlights of his pro career that I was able to find on YouTube:

So he resides in Terre Haute these days when he isn't playing? Sounds like the staff is missing a golden opportunity to use a former alumni connection even if it would be in an open gym setting.

Where in the interview does it state he resides in Terre Haute when he isn't overseas?

I could be wrong, but I also took that with the "accepting me into your community" comment. I will follow up with Nate to see if he is in fact living in the Haute.

I don't know if he lives in the Haute for a fact, but I am pretty sure he does. He rides his Harley around the Haute quite often acutally! lol I can tell you if he does not live in TH he is around here an awful lot not to be living in this community! I see him all the time in the off season.

And good point, why would the current staff not allow this guy to play a little larger role at Indiana State? Esp. since he knows Coach Lansing so well. Maybe it's because he might take their job at the end of the day...

As of a year ago, he did live in Terre Haute. Not sure if he still does but I would imagine he does.

If that is the case, he needs to grab Renn and Menser (I believe they're both in the Haute, too) and head over to the open gyms and run the young bucks off the floor.

Menser is an assistant at Terre Haute North, and Matt Renn does the radio for the ISU Men's Basketball teams on WISU or ESPN Radio.

My brother made that coast to coast magic video, he found clips of nate and made this quick vid. Nate Green was great, he was one of the few players to be named mvc player of the year and defensive player of the year in the same season.

Nate accompanied by a lovely young lady is at most, if not all home games. Also usually see Djbril Kante & Larry Ashley at most of the games. They too have lovely ladies at their side. Kante has been busy; two or three small children in hand.

I thought Djbril is still playing overseas? I know that Larry lives in the area.

Unless Nate has a twin I believe he was part of the referee crew for West Vigo- North Vermillion last Wednesday night.Has anybody else seen him around the area?

He should be good at it...good communication skills and KNOWS the game. The WVOA has an outstanding record placing officials in the IHSAA Tournament. Without a doubt, one of the TOP official's associations in the state!
But ya gotta pay your dues, calling EVERY level of hoop. Nobody climbs to the top overnight. If he develops according to expectation, I hope he doesn't get "cubbyholed" and seriously examines higher than IHSAA, thus avoiding the small-time politics.
