Why doesn't ISU have a walk to MS like other schools?

and they would fire it off before the game, after ISU touchdowns and after a win. But the neighbors complained about the noise (some woman's dogs went nutty when they would blow off the cannon).

We used to get calls in the press box from neighbors around Memorial Stadium when they would fire off the cannon. We would either hang up on them or ask them how long they've lived there around the stadium.

The stadium's been there since the 1920s. Doubtful many of the neighbors have been there that long, so they knew that they were moving in next to a college football stadium. We had no pity for them. lol

Right up there with idiot people that buy a house next to the airport and then complain because the planes make noise...:eek7:

That cannon thing is a pretty good idea. ISU used to have fireworks at their home games, what happened to that?

I think it was at Western Illinois during the 2008 season that they fired a cannon after every score. I learned to hate that tradition in one day after the 56-0 score.

Funny story about that game, I was away for that game because my father was having some health troubles... I was seriously wanting to listen to the game but I couldnt, so I signed up for ESPNs score updates via texst messages... I started going absolutely bat shit crazy because they kept sending updates of:
Darius Gates Touchdown 7-0 Indiana State and what not till the end of the game where it said we won 56-0....
I Was so excited I texted someone who was there and they said "Uhhhh dude, we lost 56-0."
Seriously one of the most depressing points of my life. :o

The stadium, or something like it, has been there longer than the 1920s. Cannon doesn't do much for me though, too routine. Let's do something original, or why bother?

Many schools with cats (UNI, EIU, Cinn) use the scoreboard roar after scores or big plays--another "tradition" that I learned to hate as the scoreboard was ringing against us in 2008 and 2009. What can we do--the "whoosh" of the wind through Sycamore leaves? Our offense should put up some good numbers this year; let's be creative.

Something unique...

The Portland Timbers (MLS franchise) started a tradition in which Timber Joey
cuts off a 'slice' of a log and presents the piece to the Timber player that scored the goal.

To the earlier post about the Stadium being there since the 1920s; yes, it has but we've only been playing there since, the 1960s??

Regardless, the cannon hasn't been a feature since the 1920s AND society today is different in the 21st century than 90 years ago...

I think ISU has been playing at that location for longer than the time we've actually "owned" it. My dad talks about football games played at Memorial Stadium when he was at ISU in the 50's...

If we want to do a song entrance, we will need to find a song that isn't being used, because then they can say we are copying them.

True... but we have played at places other than Memorial...

Memorial has been 'football only' since the mid-late 1960s... prior to that it was a baseball stadium that hosted some football games...

Really hope we get a new stadium w/in the next 10 years

Wow, I am surprised at how many catty replies I see on this site... As the mom of an incoming freshman player, I hoped to get on the site and learn as much as I could about everything Sycamore, including what kind of pregame activities to expect, and things of that nature that would be helpful to family and friends that will be coming to all the games to support Tanner, Joe, and Ben and all the players.Washington has always been known for their basketball teams and a well known family of brothers who played the game. It's my personal belief that Ben is easily Washington's best kept secret!!! And now that we will have three players wearing Blue and White this year, we will be bringing a good fan base to support the boys, and would appreciate all the helpful advise about the Sycamores as we can get!

It's a message board. We are fans which means we are passionate. Don't take everything we say here literally. Many of the people on here, including me, haven't even been to an ISU game in 10 years or so due to living so far away or whatever else. This is a place to state your opinion and well.....we have a lot of guys on here that do that....

Welcome aboard!

Washington?? State, DC, High School? What do you mean? If HS which Washington, there are 4(that I can find) Washington HS's in Indiana alone.

As for pre-game, are you asking about football, basketball? Fogive me but I am HUGE sycamore fan that doesn't keep up on recruits or names of players.
