Why won't IU come to MS? We went there a couple of seasons ago, and then we go there 2 more times, but why won't they play here?

What was the last BCS conference school to appear at ISU's Memorial Stadium? Didn't happen in the 90's or 00's that's for sure.

They wont come here for the same reason we don't play at University of Southern Indiana in basketball...Why should we? There is no gain, especially if we can get them to come here.

Here is our divisions over the years:

1976-1977 NCAA Division I
1978-1981 NCAA Division I-A

Since 1982, it appears that the only DI schools to venture into MS are the low end Mid-American Conference schools (EMU and BSU) and that's it! Never say never but no BCS school would ever set foot in Terre Haute (remember Mid-American is NOT a BCS confl) as we would have to guarantee a hefty paycheck to do it and we don't have enough seats or revenue to accomplish it. Our best chance is to host at a neutral site, such as the "LUC." Maybe if we ultimately get 25,000 seats but we all know the likelyhood of that! 15-20K seems more likely over there on the Wabash.

IU will never come to ISU. Ball State is scheduled to go to Illinois State, though. Not sure how that got scheduled, but that would be the closest possibility.

Not sure how Illinois State pulled it off, but it just doesn't make sense to even attempt it for us. Just not economically feasible. Put that money into recruiting budgets, retaining/hiring coaches, facilities upgrades, etc.

In the 70s, I think, we had either Louisville or Cincy or both at home. Would be great if we could schedule someone like Louisville in Lucas. They always bring a great crowd.
I was in the Dome for the ISU/ BSU games. First year, we had over 20,000, but each year after, the number dropped. Could be both teams were not that strong.

BCS officials consider all 120 members of Division I FBS to be a part of the BCS system, stating on its official website,

The media and others often misuse this term. All 11 conferences in the Football Bowl Subdivision are "BCS Conferences."

the MAC, however is not an automatic bid BCS league

ISU played Louisville at Memorial Stadium in the early 1980s.....

we played Cincinnati at the Hoosier Dome but it was a home game for the Sycamores. We also played Ball State at the dome, but they used to come to Memorial Stadium.

Dr. B, thanks for straightening me out there. That is not the way I understood it but you have the "PHd" so i'll go with it.

ISU-M is playing IU at Lucas Oil this year. I imagine as bad as ISU-M needs money for their athletic department it wasn't too hard to lure them to Normal.

As I wrote on here earlier in the week, if we play all three IU games in 2012, 13 and 14, I say look for one of those games to be played in Lucas Oil. I don't think it was any accident that we signed to play THREE. My guess is that one will be downtown Indy. If IU buys us out of one of those games for Big 10 expansion, we will not. I think we could easily sell 2 times our normal average at MS if we played in the LUC. Time will tell.

I agree. However when we put an L on them in gloomington '12, they very well may buy out '13 and '14.

I'd rather spend the money on as aforementioned, the tangible needs of the program.

TBH I think playing on the road at BCS schools is better anyways. Lets the kids play in a once-in-a-lifetime atmosphere and give everything they have with nothing to lose.

I don't get why anyone would expect them to come to TH. They have a stadium that seats about five times as many as we do. You want to know the reason, that alone should be enough! FBS schools don't come to FCS schools. And don't bring up Ball State. They're not a real FBS school.

As if IU draws that big of a crowd at their home football games? I bet we got more on homecoming than they do for a Big Ten game.
