Thought JS should've returned, along with Avila. Understand if Swope took a bigger paycheck elsewhere, but would've loved his return, too. Totally understand the other 3 departing, too much money for a young man/person to pass up. Just hope Avila isn't on a crap team for both of his upperclassmen years.

All that said, I'm glad HCMG is at ISU. I like our coaching staff, & all the new players are growing on me.

I agree with you all that many SLU bball fans are freaking out for no reason, but I hope they don't realize it. Their fan board entertains!

This is also true. People take/took an interest to us because an entire generation(s) love Bird and that 79' team is a major part in NCAA history. Whether people like it or not we do have a marketable brand compared to most MVC or mid-major schools because of that. Millions of people aren't tuning in to see the NIT if Evansville, McNeese, High Point, etc. if they had a comparable season like we did. America loved the "goofy white guy balling out at Indiana State" (yes I know Avila is Hispanic) story line, because it's happened before. and of course it just took off. You don't don't get that ANYWHERE else. RA marketability left the minute he hopped into the portal. Could he make more money elsewhere? Sure. But a lot of his marketability was tied to ISU.
This is very true. The baby blues and specifically Bird #33 is its own college basketball brand. The media loves to talk about the ‘79 season…no other MVC team has this going for them. Missouri State, Ill St. and Drake have all had really good seasons and they just don’t get the same following.
You think McAfee is ever having some dude from SLU on the show? Goofy ass Robbie is a baby blue sycamores jersey resonated with people…SLU Robbie is BORING.

Absolutely! He loved the underdog ISU playing exciting basketball, and loved Robbie as the leader of the team.

Larry Nerd.

Let's call it how it was. He was a great white player at a school that has arguably the greatest white college basketball player in history and one that, along with Magic Johnson, turned basketball into a major sport that people wanted to watch. He also had a lot of the same traits as Larry -- good basketball IQ, slow as molasses and could shoot the rock.

This take is ridiculous besides the part that he'll never be welcomed back to ISU.

1) It's his first year. He went 11-20 (8-20 vs D1) / 4-14 MVC his first season at ISU even with a couple of his guys tagging along.

2) Unless he started recruiting for SLU during the NIT run or MVC season (which might be possible with this guy) then he almost got about as late of a start recruiting as Matt Graves did.

3) I'll admit I don't follow St Louis U (big surprise), but based on what I've read from those that do on this board it sounds like Robbie Avila has or had been fighting some kind of injury this year.

So yeah I'd be very surprised if they aren't very competitive next season when he gets all of his pieces put together. The guy has done nothing but win his entire coaching career. If he could win here then he will likely win there too.

I'll also say this. The guy might be a jackass or whatever, but if it wasn't for him we probably don't win the MVC or have the NIT run either. This constant bitterness on here towards the man sounds like an ex that can't handle that they got dumped for someone else. He's getting paid more than double what he would have made here. No one is turning that down unless they have direct ties to TH and/or ISU, which he obviously doesn't. The only thing that's surprising is that apparently it caught most of you guys by surprise that the coach took a major payday and that the players did too.

Why am I not surprised that the one person that won't even entertain "we should cut football" conversations is also saying "maybe we were too hard on Schertz"

"I love this school so much I'm going to argue on behalf of the most harmful positions to it"

Let me be 💯. I love ISU football just as much as most of you love ISU basketball. I won't entertain dropping football for the same exact reasons most of you guys wouldn't entertain the idea of dropping ISU basketball or lowering divisions. Football is by far my favorite sport at ISU; men's basketball and baseball are a distant second and third; and I don't follow any of the other sports.

You know you just opened a can of worms! Let the onslaught begin.

First time I turned SLU on the TV…playing @ Grand Canyon. One of the best home court advantages in the country, but students on Christmas break.

SLU is broke…several good passes, but can’t finish. Swope looking like he did with us in 2nd half of season…0-5 from 3 (hit one as I typed). Robbie can’t finish against the more athletic, longer big.

They’re trying to match our regular season loss total today.

I'm perplexed as hell as how Gibson Jimerson is a 2000 pt scorer...even in 6 seasons. That dude is Trent Brown in blue.

Pretty close game with 10 minutes left. Robbie has 4 fouls, and Swoop is missing Left and Right.
