Yes, I spend all my time thinking of that magical day last November when the 0-9 Leathernecks came to our beautiful, state of the art stadium to face the 0-9 Sycamores. It was the game of the century. As the Sycamore football team came on the field all 15 fans stood at once and gave a deafening roar that could almost be heard by the visiting team across the field. The starting lineups were announced but couldn’t be heard over the loud music being played outside the field by people tailgating but not willing to actually go in and watch the game.I'm glad the football program lives rent free in your head.
When the Sycamores won that game, all 4 fans (the other 11 left at halftime) rushed the field and celebrated. And it was on that day I tell you, watching those four fans celebrate that triumphant victory, that I said to myself, “This,…..(pointing at the field), this was totally worth the $5 million dollars the school spent to get this win”.
And then a large piece of the stadium broke off and all four fans had to head to the exits. I just wish they had had a few more minutes to soak up that huge win.
It was an epic win. Just epic. ESPN called it the game of the century I believe. It was mentioned nationally online by multiple media members. Surely you remember all the national attention it garnered. People still talk about it all these months later.
Even during the Bradley basketball game when the game was sold out, so loud you couldn’t hear the person next to you, surrounded by a sea of blue in the stands and fighting for first place, I thought “no, that one game last November in that amazing place we (loosely) call a stadium was so much better than this. I would rather get one win a year on that majestic gridiron than have to win consistently in a sold out Hulman Center”
