I don't see their practices but I have a simple rule. If a player was good enough to recruit you NEVER give up on him after his FR year. ESPECIALLY if he doesn't get enough minutes to show potential. That is, of course, he works hard and has a good, team attitude.

You left out the most talented player - Legree.
All I can say about him is that he is full of athleticism and that helps him overcome his small size. He didn't do much to impress me this year, but I suppose it could be due to limited minutes. If he comes back at little to no cost then I'm good with that.

I rode his ass all season, but my complaints were his defense. He has a lot to learn still and has to spend significant time in the weight room, but he will be a solid piece moving forward. There are 6 guys I hope we keep and they are JD, Wagner, Walker, Bruno, Vorst and Alderink. That obviously leaves you needing to go after some guys at the 1 and 2 position. We also need to increase our collective basketball IQ. This team was very poor at making good decisions, especially in crunch time. Some of that will come from the learned experience with the younger guys, but we need to bring in some of that from the portal too.

A lot of people did… Our problem isn’t Bruno the player. Our problem is, having to expect that much out of a raw player with pretty good upside. That’s the issue.

Bruno had his moments - not moments of “brilliance” as was suggested above. Outside of Camp, Teel and JD no one on this team had moments of brilliance. But he had his moments. I would agree defensively he needs to take a big step forward, his ball handling and his ability to finish at the rim. But his motor was good - he played with the right amount of desire and his shot was pretty solid.

You absolutely could not be more wrong.

I absolutely have a track record of being right more than not and you absolutely have a track record of being wrong more than not. So you can have your opinion and I will have mine my friend. I’m not going to debate this with you on here if your only take is that I am wrong… If you want to tell me why I am wrong, have it.

The only thing I’m possibly wrong about is having such a passionate stance about a college age kid not being good enough to play here.

Good rule. I appreciate the essence of this rule although it’s very old school. I understand where you are coming from - I get it.

That's a good point about having to expect that much from a raw player. Gaining strength will help him defensively and his ability to finish at the rim. We need keep as many of these guys with talent and high ceilings as we can so we can roll to next season with some continuity. I dont think there is much success likely when you are essentially starting over every year.

That’s right - you nailed it at the end. I’d probably even take Legree back but I’m not paying for him. That’s the problem - this isn’t the NCAA 5 years ago. A lot of these guys expect a loyalty bonus or think they can hit the portal and get some beer money. I don’t know what to tell you - Legree is fine, but for whatever/if any he’s currently getting paid. If he wants a bump - pound sand.

And we all are entitled to our opinions. Let's hope Coach can make the right decisions. Our opinions don't affect the future of the program.
Well, when you throw everything at the wall, some things stick. I think you are not patient enough and do not count experience enough. I think you focus on points too much and do not recognize subtle talent in young players.

Did you see the games?

I thought he made some really good passes. For his minutes, he got more than his share of assists. He can shoot, handle, shoot, drive and jump. Did you watch him any in HS or AAU?
He did make some nice passes and showed the ability to make athletic plays. But he probably had as many bone headed moments as he had good ones. He has talent that's no doubt, but I think you only bring him back if its at a low price.

He was a FR that came in late. How many FR PG's have we had that hit the ground running?

I was just telling you why I feel the way l do. You don't have to agree, but you won't change what my own eyes told me. This isn't me saying he won't be any good, just to be clear. My opinion is, you can't over pay for him.

I don't know what to do here. Keep everyone you think can contribute or pay 5-6 and get 3-4 from the portal.

Alocen needs to work on his ball handling, playing off the dribble and finishing. He was pretty horrible around the hoop. But it's really not his fault that we were weak in that category. To ask a true freshman, from spain, that came in late to be what we've had the past 2-3 seasons is just not logical thinking. The miss here was Summers; he was suppose to be that 2 guard that can hit the 3 but also score at all 3 levels and get to the rack. Graves gave him every opportunity to be that dude but for whatever reason it didn't work out, Alocen was the only other option and did the best he could. I'm not going to lose my mind if Alocen leaves but i'd also want him back, but he HAS to work on his deficiencies

I think, in my mind Bruno is ok coming off the bench. I like him but I think we can do better. I thought Summers would be that and maybe he will.
