I would be gross incompetence not to. I'd consider it a fireable offense.

I could be wrong on this - but I think because of Title 9 it maybe impacts our other sports scholarship #’s as well? I remember hearing Nathan discussing this at some point but I zoned out - I just don’t nerd out on that stuff… lol scholarship expansion sounds too much like tournament field expansion which sounds too much like conference realignment. 🤣

But I could have also just misunderstood what was being said…

Doesn't matter. You take away from other male sports at that point. You underfund football, baseball, I don't give a shit what sport.

Honestly, if you're not going to use every available scholarship, I'm done giving the school and any other organization NIL money. I mean, what are we doing here? Seriously, if they do this, I'm out and don't ever ask me for another dime because you aren't serious so I'd rather set my money on fire elsewhere.

Everyone involved in the decision-making tree should be fired. Or just drop the fucking sport because that is bush league clown show shit.

I guess you’ve given it more thought than I have… Law of large numbers?

Could a couple other arguments be made?

- Expanded roster potentially spreads out your NIL resources even further? If it doesn’t your just taking flyers on what random JC/Freshman kids that aren’t getting any NIL $?

- Does an expanded roster make the one team one mission mantra a little more difficult? The more testosterone in that locker room - the more personality - the more difficult of a job to keep everyone playing for each other. Can’t play everyone and everyone wanna play.

Just a couple quick thoughts to play devils advocate… Interesting, this is the hill you’re ready to die on? Not NIL, Not transfer rules, Not NCAA collusion with P5’s, Not hosting a baseball regional, Not cutting football 10 years ago, 9 years ago, 1 year ago… But not funding all scholarships available?

Interesting… No one has told me anything - they may fully intend to fill-er-up. I’m just saying brace yourself. (I will inquire as I have a few meetings next week).

Haven't given it a lot of thought. But I'd be inclined to save that money and keep walkons. Are #14 and 15 players game changers?

Well… I think he’s saying all scholarships are created equal. Meaning the 14th or 15th guy added might end up being a starter. It doesn’t matter when you get said player a scholarship is a scholarship.

Not to mention - you are going to have injuries, roster casualties and players that are busts. We had all 3 on last years roster. So I can easily understand the argument on the other side of the coin.

I won’t speak for Jason though - I’m sure he has his own other reasons but those would be my initial thoughts for fully funding.

Everyone serious about basketball will be funding a full 15. That equates to an extra 700 scholarships in the D1 pool. That also likely means further dilution of the talent pool.

You need practice bodies. You need to increase your talent level. You need to develop players. You need roster stability.

You use those extra scholarships on high school or foreign players and coaches earn their keep by developing them. Then if you lose your star player, if you've recruited and developed well, over time you won't be so dependent on hitting a home run in the transfer portal. I mean, look at Drake, those were all high school "D2" kids that he developed. The high schoolers are not NIL kids, either, so your carrying costs are simply what you're already doing for walk-ons plus the added scholarship expense.

The woe is me, we don't have money shit is one thing. That not even trying is something completely different to me. Underfunding the baseline equates to not trying to me. Like I said, I'm out at that point and not coming back. I'm too old to keep giving time and money to something that isn't giving the same back.

I guess I wasn't paying attention. I'm not apologizing for not knowing in advance.

Do these players realize that they can't reach their potential if they play for a different coach every year?
They don't care, it's what can I get now. That's the world we live in now.

I'll be honest. I wrote the kid off the second he shrugged off JO's instruction on the sideline.

Yep… That was a big time moment. He wanted nothing to do with one of the best PG in InState history instruction.

His comments are pretty clear too… He singled out one coach which is fine - but it’s also pretty telling. Be interesting to see if that coach he singled out will be back next year himself. If he he wants to be back he’s surely not putting in the work indicating he does.

A lot of warning flags here including being better in the layup line than he ever was in a real game.
