They’re trying. The NCAA has been lobbying Congress for an Anti-Trust Exemption for a while now and bills have been introduced. Like anything other piece of legislation, getting a bill through and signed is very, very difficult.

Yup, this is what now passes for discourse.

But it’s not your fault, it’s the other sides fault.

At least that is what I’m told by each side all the time.

That's true. You seem reasonable, do you agree that:
The US gov is spending trillions more than they are taking in and are deep in debt.
The spenders are unelected political appointees and employees of mostly one party.
They are spending other peoples' money.
They are spending money to buy votes.
Given all of that, why would anyone be against an audit?
This is a 80-20 issue.

In my view the debt is the biggest threat America faces as a nation, and both sides of the aisle have and continue to utterly fail us in this aspect.
Years we crossed $X Trillion debt mark:
1982= $1T
1996= $5T
2008= $10T
2012= $15T
2017= $20T
2020= $25T
2022= $30T
2024= $35T
Current= $36.9T

Now back on topic!

As for collegiate athletics, the government is quite literally the problem, just like with most other things, so they aren't going to fix anything. It all started in California and quickly spread throughout the country, which then led to the judicial system getting involved and ironically making things even worse.

Face it, it's basically over for mid majors like us! Things will only continue to get worse and less competitive over time. We might be competitive in the Missouri Valley, but we'll be so irrelevant compared to the power schools that almost no one will even care. We'll be like AA Baseball compared to the actual MLB, if we even remain in Division 1. If our players perform well here they'll just get called up to the next level. I know some of you have this "never give up" mentality which is commendable, but the writing on the wall couldn't be clearer.

Agree about national debt.
Your statements about ISU & Valley basketball being over is laughable. Who cares what others think about the Valley or ISU basketball? My ISU fandom needs no validation.

We all know it's tough sledding for non-power 4 schools, but not gonna give up on ISU basketball, no way. In today's current climate, we're not competing against the Duke's & other multi-million dollar teams, success for ISU is determined by fielding consistently competitive teams in the Valley.

To be fair, fandom isn't really my point. The point is that winning the MVC won't mean anything nationally because we'll just get bounced in the first round by a multi-million dollar team, if we even get to compete in the real tournament at all. I have a feeling that's also about to end relatively soon (5-10 years). Whatever tournament the power schools put on in Vegas this past season was likely a test run for completely breaking off.

The real key is roster limits. In every sport!!

In MBB, there are MANY quality players so if rosters are kept at current levels you have a chance to continually restock with quality players even if the best leave. If rosters in MBB go back to 25, players will take the scholarship and a P4/5 with a belief each can find time on the floor. After a couple of years are burned w/o playing time, is it worth risking an ISU roster spot on a now marginal, inexperienced player.

In baseball, the change to 35 man rosters and scholarship limits will entice most every really talented player into a power league; nevertheless, if one can find a quality pitching staff or develop one, there remains a slim chance of ongoing competitiveness. After all, baseball is largely decided by today's starting pitcher and the defense behind him.

Okay. I think I see your 'big picture' point. You might be proved correct. We're viewing this from opposite perspectives.

ISU 🏀 will always be relevant as long as it has fans supporting it.

Following the tourney snub, I stopped caring about P4 teams & national perception. I'm bullish on the Sycamores & follow some other mid majors, but the rest of college basketball is basically dead to me.

No doubt about our debt. Somebody in Washington has to be concerned about our deficit.
 
Elon was but the Democrats tried to ruin him by attempting to kill off his car company that is mostly something Democrats want. All because he supported a guy the Democrats use to love before he decided to run for president as a republican. Just a lot of hate.
