People have regarded this kid as the best player in the history of Greene County. That is pretty damn good considering you have the likes of Brody Boyd and the Graves brothers from the area. I think you go for it. And I’m not saying that because I’m a Greene County resident. This kid is a Power 5 talent. You have to look at guys like Cooper, Odum, Jake Kelly as comparable local talents that we have landed. This kid is a better athlete than that list hands down. Yes we need a 4-5 man. But you take best available for your 13th scholarship.

There wasn't much to remember.
4 me, when duz all of the Joey H conversation stop? He's never going to be a SYCAMORE, so why is there this endless conversation about him that goes back to what,1897?

And another comment, who were the TOP THREE players of ALL TIME from GREENE COUNTY, besides JOEY? I'm sure there were some good ones, but who were they?

And for the County Border challenged, BRODY BOYD is a SULLIVAN COUNTY kid.

IMO Hart has the athleticism of a Cam Crawford, but a better shot.
I'm not saying you are not correct, but college shooting is way harder than HS due to the length of the shots, defense, and endurance. Crawford's %'s were very, very high his FR year. Most high-scoring HS players save a lot of their energy for shooting.

When I compare players, I always try to compare apples to apples. So I am comparing Hart as a HS senior to the film saw of Crawford as a high school senior.

Big Joey Hart fan here. Anybody watched recent game film? He also has a couple highlight videos from this year on his Twitter that are fire. His game definitely translates to the college level. I think ISU would be lucky to have him, and so does CJS, apparently. I *think* he’s wanting to stay close, but does have several Power 5s in contact, and one P5 offer so far, although it’s halfway across the nation. I think ISU fans should jump on it.

I have. I believe he is a quintessential mid major player. I’d grade him MM/MM+ and that isn’t saying he couldn’t play at HM level, he would just likely need 2 years to develop there versus having a more immediate and larger impact at the MM level.

Likes:
- Pretty shot. Nice release point, actually gets lift off the floor vs set shot like many.
- Sneaky bounce when he chooses to use it.
- Hit every FT I saw him take.
- Seems emotionally stable.
- Seems to make the smart play.

Dislikes:
- Seems to rely around teammates getting him a shot. This could have been game specific.
- Didn’t punish lesser players when he had the ball. Want to see him attack those guys.
- Didn’t see much of a back-to-the-basket game.

Development:
- If he works on his aggression, he will be a very good multi dimensional player.
- Develop a midrange back to the basket turnaround a la Domask at SIU or DeVries at Drake. This is a huge skill in close games where team needs a high percentage bucket.
- Work on his lateral agility.

I watched a game. I would like to have him at State, but he would have to sit a year. Someone like Larry could eat him alive.

I don’t think anyone here isn’t “jumping on it”… I think collectively we’ve been more than thrilled to see a lot of local talent come to Indiana State, play basketball and get a degree. Jake Odum, RJ Mahurin, Eitel boys, Jake Kelly, Harry Marshall, Cooper Neese, Justin Gant and many others have all been fully embraced by Indiana State fans - I don’t think anyone isn’t “jumping” in on it. If anything the opposite - Indiana State fans are going to be thrilled to have a local talent like Hart!

Again, had he been in the portal when we had 5 roster openings I think the narrative around this would be completely different. First of all, 99% of us really don’t know what we have with this much roster turnover next year. It’s purely speculation on who we think will play and who we think is going to struggle to find minutes. My point is this - it’s more of a conversation about depth than anything else. Not talent. Not Mid Major vs High Major. Not X’s and O’s.

If JS goes in this direction I will support it. But I’m always going to question our depth behind Robbie. I’m going to do it until I’m convinced it’s not an issue with this roster. Quite frankly, it’s an issue that was addressed until it wasn’t when our freshman to be center decommited himself and hit the portal. A kid who had a clearly defined role and almost guaranteed minutes. A moronic decision IMO.

4 or 5 scholarships and backup center 1,000% get Hart to sign in the dotted line yesterday! 1 scholarship. No backup center. I’m either talking to Mason Miller about playing time, depth and making a scholarship available OR I’m going with a Center OR I’m abiding by JS own words and not using it just to use it and taking it into the season with me.

* The other caveat to this is that if Gray isn’t declared eligible then you really need to fill that last scholarship and I’d feel better about Hart getting that final scholarship in that situation.

If he wants to go play P5 and ride the bench his first couple years, be my guest. I was not a fan of us not making his initial top 4/5 schools considering other local schools did. We may be all gasping at straws here anyways. I’ll take him, but we shouldn’t be breaking our back for him given we have a large need still to fill with someone who could have played D1 mins last year.

These posts are pretty negative. Wouldn’t have thought that. Truth is, although Graves reoffered, JS wasn’t sold on him until he saw him play in person. Loved him, but it was a little late in the recruiting game by then. No shade on Schertz, he’d just gotten there.

Agree with all this except relying on teammates to get shot. I can tell you have seen him play.

How could you possibly read this thread and say the posts are pretty negative? There are people here saying he’s the best player in county history!

It’s completely fair and objective to discuss whether his skill set fits with the current roster construction. That’s not a negative on Joey; rather, it’s just the reality of how the 2023-2024 Sycamores work their rotations (and years beyond). I’m always a fan of best player available recruiting, but in todays transfer portal world we have to make sure we’re keeping promises with playing time, role and fit. Right now we have one scholarship open and a pretty glaring need at the 4/5.

None of this is negative towards Hart. It's merely people discussing their opinions on the needs of the team. Having been discussing ISU sports here for 16 years, not days, I am pretty sure just about everyone will be happy if he comes here. It's always good to have local talent - if they can play.

Ok. I just got on here to see what the vibe in the area was. It’s free, so why not, right? I’m sure others are doing the same. Anyhow, hope the Trees have a great season. I’m sure they will with CJS.

Understandably he's exploring his options. He's following coaches from Butler and Wyoming so we might not be an option for him after all this talk anyway. We'll see. I still feel we need to recruit need more than anything at this point.

I have not seen any film on this kid. I have one simple question what does he do or have that we can't get elsewhere in the transfer portal????? I have seen a lot of baggage with this kid. dissed ISU twice with two different coaches and systems. Doesn't seem he is or ever has been interested in us except for maybe a safety line this time around. The whole dad issue is a distraction. I just want to understand what this kid has that we must have and can't get anywhere else in the portal. Just because he lives close to ISU is not a reason. For every Odum there are far more locals that don't pan out. I am not bashing locals my point is you recruit talent and players not addresses.
