with their forward thinking I figured they had moved on to more inclusive co-ed sports
Total Distributions per school are in for Fiscal Year 21-22 for the major FBS conferences.
The only forward thinking they have is that they were able to get an annual $10M welfare check every year from UCLA's Big Ten money.

I'm starting to think that 12 is too many for the CFP, especially after the most recent batch of realignment that has essentially killed off the Pac 12.
I'd probably make it an 8 team field. Each "Power 4" Championship game would be part of the playoffs, and then seed the remaining 4 Champs 1-4 based on their CFP Ranking.
The G5 (or G6, depending on if the PAC survives) leagues should make their own separate playoff. I also don't care about Notre Dame's independence. I'm sure the ACC would give them some sweetheart deal, where they could still have their NBC contract and keep 100% of the money, if they joined and played a full 8 game ACC schedule. The problem is ND would have to drop a few of the lightweight schools that inflate their record every season.

LOL times are getting tough for CaliStan.
The vote was 11/15 a few weeks ago and they all need 12/15 to be invited. FSU, Clemson, UNC, and NC State were the "No" votes last time around.

Heard on Sirius 84/Rick Neuheisel that all three candidates are willing to take reduced payouts for several years.
Cal and Stanford are reported to be willing to take 50% of their split and SMU has reportedly agreed to take 0% for several years.
It is easy to understand how Cal and Stanford can afford this given huge endowments and probably no exit fees from the disappearing PAC-12.
SMU on the other hand is reported to have lined up massive donor contributions to cover any costs and lost revenue.

The stories around the 80's SMU are legendary. Now that paying off players is above board, they are one I could actually see having a resurgence.
Even books about Bama and Bear Bryant often made mention how they were scared of SMU sniping the talent with $50 handshakes and what not.

SMU has the richest of the rich attend. I don't know their endowment, but I'll surmise it's massive. It's about as elitest of a school as you can get.
I'm also sure those dudes have just been chomping at the bit to be big time since Pony Express got the death penalty, too.
For sure! There's plenty of dry powder waiting to be used at SMU. They've been a potentially sleeping giant for a while now.
Elitest... define that.... couple of DuckDuckWents and I see $MU admitted ~52%+ for this year's FROSH class... big endowment ($1B+) but smaller than other schools... college "rankings"... depending on the source (Forbes, USNW, etc) they;re "Top 100" but in the 70-80s
Alot of those characters are pushing up daisies at this point... though their sons, grandsons may have as much interest in the Ponies
If the boosters were REALLY interested in cracking open the bank - wouldn't Sonny Dykes still be in Dallas (SMU) vs. Ft Worth (TCU)??

I define it by all of the richest kids go there. Trust me on that. I work right by the SMU campus. The parking lots are full of cars I would only dream of driving.
Exactly. Those are the folks that inherited the wealth, grew up going to games with their pops/grandpops and likely still have the Death Penalty taste in their mouths feeling like they got robbed. Letting them walk into a power conference is not a good idea for those in it IMO... but hey, we'll see.
Sounds like Dykes doesn't agree with your position -- he cited lack of institutional investment, student/fan apathy as reasons to NOT stay at SMU and take the TCU job
Ponies ran through a lot of HC from Collins to Dykes - time will tell if they revive the Pony Express
