The Blue Level
Ball state is receiving $1.6 million to go to Georgia and get the crap knocked out of them
Isu is driving to iu to play a Friday night football game
Ironically it is on Friday night when high school teams play
I wonder how much we/isu is receiving

$450-500k I believe is what IU pays us.

That is the going rate for most FCS teams whereas G5 FBS teams get $1-2m from what I've seen over the years.

They also have a higher operating budget.

Are you talking about Georgia vs IU? Sure, but that doesn't matter here.

FCS buy games are worth 400-750k on average. FBS buy games are between $1-2m on average. The reason why are mainly logistical as they have to travel, feed, equip and house 25-40 more heads between players and coaches. Remember that FCS has a 63 scholarship limit and FBS has 85 all the while having much larger coaching and support staffs. Some times they will also pay extra for the visiting team to bring their bands.

Talking about Ball State

So essentially Ball State either paid for their football budget or put a major dent into it by getting their heads beat in the first two games of the season with scheduling Kentucky and Georgia????

Sounds like a smart move on the Ball St. AD's. part and Clink should learn from!!!! If we gotta keep this pig well Clink needs to schedule a couple notches above IU to pay for it.

Bring Alabama Football to Memorial Stadium! Sarcasm Definitely Intended!!!!!!

ISU-Muncee "taxes" the hell out of their students -- $1,412 for "student services" that's the funding of FBS football and other MAC sports

1694187592649.png

53.7% from student fees - $12.55m
31% from institution/government support - $7.16m

Unfortunately you can't look at 2021 for an idea due to COVID, but competition guarantees in prior years were 4-7% of their budgets.

So 84.5% subsidized off the backs of their students or from school coffers and 4-7% (on average) from those guarantees from football and basketball.

If I was Ball State I would not pay a darn thing
Do we pay them when the come to Terre Haute
I’m sure we don’t
Ball State has the money
They are getting $1.6 from Georgia and I assume a nice amount from Kentucky

If Ball St. has ever played football in Terre Haute it hasn't been for decades. As I mentioned in the IU thread ISU/Ball St played each other in Indy in the old Hoosier Dome back in the 80s....right after ISU dropped the sports of Baumgartner and Thomas to focus on funding football and basketball.

You must be new to ISU football. Ball u hasn't been to Terre haute for many moons. I'm sure the only reason we are going there is so they can attempt to get the trophy back.

Isu could not even get the Alabama club team to come to Terre haute

Where did I read that the game was in Naptown? I was thinking we play Ball State, the IU and Louisville?

IMO not being in the MAC with Ball State has been a pretty big negative for ISU. We lost our one true rival not too long after the 1A/1AA split.

If MVC basketball doesn't improve within the next 5 seasons I could easily see Illinois State and Southern Illinois bailing for the MAC to join up with Northern Illinois. MAC basketball has always been inferior, but they've been closing the gap.

Agreed.

MAC basketball was pretty equal to the MVC in the 1990s. Then they sold their soul to football and sank too much money into it to have Tuesday and Wednesday games on ESPN.

From Bonzi Wells to Earl Boykin to Wally Szczerbiak and Gary Trent, MAC schools were strong in basketball. Then around the end of the 2000s they fell off and have never really recovered.

Not sure how much they support basketball anymore. I’m sure it’s not as much as they sink into football.
