Scored in the first inning! This altered batting lineup may be more effective today.

We didn't have any stoppers in the bullpen last year and it appears we don't have any this year either.

Don't get too discouraged by this. U. of Kentucky is Freaking Good!

It's never fun to let one get away, but we have to move on. Next weekend will be about as hard as this weekend was.

I looked at Memphis's record and reviews and I didn't get the impression they were as tough as Kentucky. I must not be reading the right articles. Last season they went 17-38 and ended the season 9th in their conference. Is their conference much tougher than MVC?

Not being from this area or familiar with D1 baseball, I'd like to hear who the best teams are on ISU's schedule this season? After this coming weekend, have they seen the toughest teams for the season (outside of the MVC conference)?

Thanks to everyone for helping to educate me. :imslow:

I agree. I do feel that the guys were very competitive with UK for the most part this series. In order for the Sycamore program to continue on the path to improvement as a top tier D1 team, they need to face these types of opponents in order to see where they need to improve. It's just a knife in the heart sometimes (like today)!

Memphis is traditionally decent. They are from a better conference (Conference USA) than the MVC. Anytime you have to travel to a school in a tough conference, it is going to be hard to win. That being said, it is hard for teams to come here and win.

Wichita State is the best team we play. They are in our conference and we will play a weekend series at their place this year.

i'd rate the mc and conference usa a little closer

syd, i know that you've been around isu and the mvc about as long as i have. but i would consider the mvc and conference usa about evenly when it comes to baseball. unless the talent level in the mvc has really dropped in recent years since i left isu, most years the mvc might be a bit ahead of conference usa. i know when i was there, the mvc fared pretty well against conference usa teams. we played at memphis when i was there (it was one of of our lengthy spring trip jaunts that saw the sycamores facing louisville, kentucky, austin peay, middle tennesee, arkansas, arkansas-little rock, and memphis).

Thanks for the review

Interesting background TJames and SydCamore. Thank you very much. Cordell met with Witchita State, Signed with UALR (and requested a release - which he obviously got), and did an official visit with Middle Tennessee. We are so very excited that he selected ISU out of the bunch but it sounds like the teams Cordell was talking with were good ones.

Did anyone see any sign of Alex Meyer at the KU game?

UK...not "KU"

University of Kentucky (UK) is the correct salutation...I live amidst a divided throng of IU, U of L and UK fans in S. IN (just N. of Louisville) and have likewise, been previously corrected on these minor issues.:krazy:

[chuckle] Yes, this concern over getting the school name just right always seemed so anal to me until the time that I was wearing an "OSU Alumni" sweatshirt in a Southern California store and I was asked if I went to Ohio State. C'mon people--isn't this Pac-10 country?

i used to have a sports editor at the tribstar...

who was an indiana university alum and he would go stark raving crazy when somebody (more often than not it was a tv or radio announcer) referred to the Hoosiers as the U of I. He would roar, "It's INDIANA UNIVERSITY!!!!! Not the UNIVERSITY OF INDIANA!!! IT'S IU!!!!! WE ARE NOT THE UNIVERSITY OF ILLINOIS!!!!!!" lol

other than those times, he was a very quiet and unassuming guy. lol

Degrees from "Extensions"

What tears me up, is that students that enroll in some of the major university "extension" centers located remotely from the major campus, receive identical degrees...as if they BOTH received the same quality of education.

A life-long friend that attended ISUE (now USI) has a degree from "Indiana State," not "Indiana State - Evansville." It ain't right....:sycamores:

Likewise, students @ IUS (Indiana University Southeast) in NewAlbany get an "Indiana U." diploma - give me a break.:krazy:

colors....

what honks me off (lol) is when i see people wearing blue and white "indiana university" t-shirts and sweatshirts. iu's colors are cream and crimson, not blue and white!!!!! that's indiana state's colors!!!!!

if that's the case, somebody should start selling cream and crimson indiana state university shirts....lol.....

when i worked at isu, it also honked me off to see isu students wearing iu, purdue, notre dame, ball state, etc., stuff. folks, you are at isu. wear isu stuff!!!! lol

People in Iowa do the same thing if someone says Iowa University. Maybe it's because no one would ever make the mistake of saying the University of Indiana State, but I really could care less if you use the proper name in conversation. The whole THE Ohio State thing is just obnoxious.

here's one for ya.....

when i worked in the athletic department at isu, we would get phone calls from people thinking that they were calling iu. it got so bad after a while that one time we had people calling our offices requesting press credentials for ncaa tournament games that iu was playing in.

so we just started taking their information and telling them that their media credentials would be available at the media will call window. of course, when they got there, they didn't have any passes. lol

some would call back later and complain and we would tell them that they were calling INDIANA STATE and not IU and that they should know the difference. lol

TJames--love that story! I think we've all suffered the disrespect thing for our schools. We have the same problem here with OSU and UO. The Ducks rolled out new football uniforms with three games to go this season and they were ALL BLACK, as well as BLACK helmets with the green O. Needless to say, lots of Beavers pointed out that black was our color--stick to your green and yellow! Also, I've had a number of people outside the state of Oregon respond with "Aren't they the Ducks?," when I've said I went to OSU. Needless to say, winning the CWS in '06 and '07 when UO didn't even have a team made it all the more sweet.

I think ISU and OSU have had similar experiences of living in the shadow of the more well-known in-state rival school!
