As someone outside the political and economic climate of Terre Haute, I see nothing but good things here. Everyone is saying the right things, talking about cooperation, collaboration, commitment, etc. I can't wait to see the final design/renderings from Ratio Architects.

Great news sering this thing move forward! Although it didnt have any renderings it did state that the Hulman would remain with a 10,200 seating capacity, which I find interesting. I just hope that they put suites in the arena!!!

With all do respect to the decision makers, it's fucking stupid to keep it at 10,200 capacity.

Curious what the minimum requirement is NOW to be eligible to host an NCAA Regional? If it's not 10,200, then I agree totally with you. We're lucky to get 5k/gm, and the 5K+ empty seats DESTROY any "home court advantage" atmosphere. Hell, opposing teams HATE coming to HC because of this euphoric stupor!

Get it right THIS time, architects & planners!

maybe they should just get folding chairs and play at the arena

...or rent the E. Illinois Gym. They could use the $$$, maybe avoiding a 4 week layoff of staff due to the State of Illinois "budget crisis." Wonder what their Fall enrollment will be, 5k?

FBI outa go to Chicago & catch the "big fish" instead of squandering resources on small "ponds" like TH.

you should look at the plan they had to do a bunch of stuff on campus like build a new stadium connected on 4th street (just to the east of the gym).

now they cant afford to keep their grass mowed.

let that be a lesson.....being a janitor at a university cannot be one of the best jobs in town or something is wrong with your compensation structure

I would rather it be on the big side instead of the too small side. There is no such thing as "just right".

There I times that I wonder why I even read some of the crap that flows here. Why can't we just be happy instead of beating up on attendance. Maybe we should just play in the old Arena like when I was in school so everyone can be happy that the place was packed with 4500 people. We talk about apathy on campus, hell, it's right here, too.

I complain about it because I think they should reduce capacity.

I think they need to look to places like Gonzaga McArthey or Penn's Palestra. Drop the size, add suites and/or other viewing options like a bar/grill "a la the Birds Nest" or even move the Varsity Club up there. Or hell, do both one on each side of the facility. This is likely the last time for a long while we'll get a reconfig/upgrades so do it right.

I would love to have an arena with 7,000-7,500 chairbacks for "general viewing" with additional spaces for 1,000-1,500 spectactors that are in suites, bars, lounges, varsity club, etc. type settings. That would put full capacity at 8,000-9,000 which is plenty for us.

Now if they want it to remain at 10,200 to host regionals, state events, concerts, etc. I can understand that. But if they are just looking at it as an ISU basketball number, they definitly need to drop capacity and add more "bells and whistles" to Hulman.

Doesn't take a rocket scientist to average ISU attendance @ HC MINUS the Bird Era to get a "reasonable" attendance projection...always having 5,000+ empty seats reflects on our program/University. Institutional "self-actualization" is fiscally prudent and eliminates WASTEFUL spending.

BTW, I always thought it was exciting when it was DIFFICULT to get a ticket into the Arena during "alphabetical" rotation of games years! Even during THAT era, 2/3 of the student body ignored ISU Basketball.

BTW, there are benefits to SCARCITY - it's called VALUE!

Don't often agree with you on here, but your spot on with this one.Reducing capacity is the sensible thing to do. Make the environment better, have legit suites that people actually want to sit in, and create more face value for your existing tickets.

The other side of the coin is that the HC is used for much more than ball games...so reducing it to 6-7,000 is out of the question. I think a reasonable compromise is to knock it down to 8-9,000 counting suites. This would still allow you to have concerts and such while improving our basketball experience.

How many "other functions" including the mentioned "concerts" need any more capacity than 6,000 ? Elvis has left the building and was there ever another entertainer who filled the place..............not in my memory?

Been to 3 country concerts that needed the 10,000 seat venue. One could argue that the benefit of having a 6,000 seat arena outweighs the cost, but no doubt there has been times a non sporting event needed the 10k

What's Boot City hold...4-5k? Prime time TV on Saturday mornings, hedging into the ol' "Mighty Mouse" slot w/ big time groups.

Come on, guys. You know size doesn't matter. It's what you do with it that's important.
