I don't like our football helmets.

Man oh man, let's hope that 4Q doesn't see the black helmet. If he does, he is going to pantone-ballistic!

I like the Blue, but please be the first person, to place the star where it belongs.

Sure, it starts in IN, but part of it must be be hanging over the border with Illinois. The western edge of the city limits can't be more than five miles from the Illinois border. Even Marshall, Illinois is only 10 miles away from the campus....

This Star is positioned like everyone elses interpretation of its location...and that's over Brazil, in Clay County...or worse yet....Staunton.

Do one that's Illiana co-positioned, and let's see what it looks like.

Fixed the star. For some reason when I moved the image from one PSD to the helmet, it came unglued.

On a similar question, what did you guys think of the IU helmets when we played them? They had the state logo on one side. I thought they were pretty cool. We could pull something like this off even better being Indiana 'State'

I liked them. I think the logo should have been on both sides of the helmet though instead of just one. I was actually going to do that one, too, but I can't find a high res copy of the logo to apply to the helmet.

Fan of black helmets, not a fan of blue facemasks. No matter what color you make the helmet, a blue facemask looks bad. Go with a white or grey facemask, can't go wrong.

I like the blue face masks, gramps.

I went back and added some grey variations for you on some of the others I did.

I think the blue helmets with the blue facemasks and the black helmets with blue facemasks look straight out of the seventies. Very, very, very little of the seventies should still be around, especially anything to do with fashion and color combinations!

A reminder...70's football wasn't all bad. BTW..."fashions" recirculate and NEVER disappear, usually popping up w/ a minor contemporary "fashion statement." Ask your dad why he never threw away his OLD ties...:geezer:

I like a fashion element that TIES generations of alum$ together. IU basketball has had those ugly-ass candy stripe bottom warmups since RMK's early 70's. Fashionable...NOT. But as a "hi$torical bridge," they're a visual cue to Hoosier basketball success thru the ages.

Why does the alternate color have to be black? Navy blue would work wouldn't it? Our letter jackets are Navy blue, and a lot of teams used Navy as their primary uniform color back in the day. Ditch the black, it is not a school color any witch way you cut it! I do like some of the helmet designs. It was fun looking at them.

Because it's a color the school has adopted? If you remember back a couple years ago, they had a survey that was sent around asking about athletics branding. The black color was one of the discussions and we've seen ramped usage of it ever since. At this point, it is a defacto third color IMO since I see coaches wearing it all of the time, we've used black jerseys, etc. That said, navy is a complimentary color and would have no problems working. We actually use 4-5 different shades of blue throughout athletics.

All the talk of black helmets and uniforms present an issue not yet discussed. Consider a hot, humid, sunny Saturday afternoon, much like at West Laffy or worse. I would anticipate those unis to be significantly hotter than the white we wore for that game. It seems like that would have a part in the way the players perform as the game goes on. I would hope that the designers/manufactures of the gear would have an answer to this.

I've enjoyed reading this thread and seeing the other designs. But I love the helmets we have now. And the all white uniforms at Purdue Saturday and last year at IU look classy and big time. And we seem quicker and faster too (optical illusion I know).
I actually think our helmets have the best design of any college in Indiana !

It looks awesome, and accurate in that location. And it really projects some kind of map cred that having it over Seelyville, doesn't. Thanks Jason!!!!!

In the "Gameday Central" box at the top of the page, the helmet, at least on my computer, appears to be silver with a silver faceguard. In the past year or two, have we used that helmet in a game situation? I do recall the obvious ones, white or blue with various logos on them, but I don't recall a silver one (we used silver on the helmets back in the 60's and 70's and maybe even the 80's) but not silver in modern times unless I am having a total brain fade here. Since if you asked me what my ideal helmet would looks like, that is what I would love to see them wear all the time.

Has anyone seen the Western Kentucky chrome helmets with red trim? Very cool. I think IU has a chrome one to intro this season as well.

ISU had silver helmets and pants in the Huntsman era, silver was the "Black" of its day, very popular among many schools where it was not a school color

Old Skool

Anyone for an oldskool model? I really like this logo and think it should be brought back, looks great on the helmet. I dug the old logo from an archived media guide from the early 80's and had to recreate the "S" in AutoCAD. I now have it layered in Gimp for future mods.

Like the off white or silver helmet with the dark blue state of Indiana with the S around it. Nice mix of old (design) and new (color)
