I echo the above statement. The guys looked strong and quick in the drills on the news clip. Watching them sure makes me proud to be a Sycamore fan!!

Guessing that's the most seniors we've had at an ISU Pro Day in quite some time, right?

Good luck men!

Pro Days at Indiana State in the past....

Back in the day, during Coach Raetz' tenure, we would have anywhere from 10 to 12 scouts show up for Pro Days. We usually ran Pro Day on the indoor track at ISU or out at Rose-Hulman in their indoor track. Sometimes out at Memorial Stadium.

The number of scouts attending and teams represented all varied depending on who the seniors were at the time. When Wayne Davis and Vencie Glenn were coming out, the place was packed.

Davis and Glenn both ended up being second-round picks.

We had a good turnout when Kirk Wilson and Dan Brandenburg were eligible for the draft. Charles Swann and Ed "Poncho" Martin also drew a lot of scouts.

I used to know a lot of those guys. Raetz would have a get together afterwards at the bar near Memorial Stadium for all the scouts who came. He would introduce the scouts to all of his assistant coaches as well as me and other athletic department personnel who were on hand.

I became friends and acquainted with several of them, like Jeff Shriver from the Bears, Elbert Dubinion from Buffalo, Ron Marincek from the Cowboys, Kent McCloughan from the Raiders, Jack Bushofsky from the Colts.

Since I was a Rams fan as a kid, Raetz used to have the Rams scout there and we'd get into a Rams trivia contest, which I usually won to the amazement of the Rams scout.

I really enjoyed meeting all those guys. I still see several of them from time to time in my job now covering the Colts.

I used to see Brandenburg quite a bit my freshman year, he and I were freshmen the same year. He either lived on the same floor as me in Cromwell Hall, or he would come down to my floor quite a bit since there were a number of freshman football players on my floor.

I'm guessing ISU hasn't had a pro day in quite some time. Hoping this becomes a regular occurrence again. Go State!

No, they had Pro Days even during the down years....

at least that is my understanding. But this year was the first time in several years where he you actual attendance of several teams and scouts for Pro Day. I was at Memorial Stadium a couple springs ago for the Blue-White game and there was a scout there from the Saints to look at S Donye McCleskey.

And I know Jamie Petrowski drew interest from NFL scouts after his senior year. And I know there was an offensive guard from Indiana State, can't remember his name, who signed with the Colts as an undrafted free agent who also drew the interest of the NFL scouts. I used to tease him in the Colts locker room.

Whenever any ISU guys get signed by the Colts, many of the Indy media people tease me about it. They say I act like I am their uncle keeping an eye on them. And when McCleskey, Petrowski and the offensive lineman were there, that was probably true.

The Brandenburg Legacy

We had a good turnout when Kirk Wilson and Dan Brandenburg were eligible for the draft. Charles Swann and Ed "Poncho" Martin also drew a lot of scouts.

I remember when Steve Brandenburg, Dan's father, played for Indiana State.

I clearly remember seeing Grieble squat 800 lbs. I thought that bar was gonna snap it was bent so far. I talked with him a year ago..... He said he hit 980 in a competition a few years ago..... That dude was a monster.

A. Sewall tore his ACL doing a vertical jump either in a pre.workout or workout for a team....tough break for this great young man!

Yes, that is his plan. He tore his ACL landing on the vert at the Midwest combine at the Bears facility. He is still getting some interest from teams who want to know his schedule for surgery and rehab. He'll have surgery on April 11, then plans to get right back into it. Tough break, but life moves on. His last measurements pre-injury: 4.53/4.51 40's, 39" vert, 24 reps at 225, 10' broad jump. His 43 on the Wonderlic test was the highest ever for a DB. Plus he will still be the same age, or in some cases younger, than the DBs coming out next year. As a side note, his brother Mark was cleared for full activity for Spring practice after having his ACL surgery in September. He's bounced back well and is working hard.
