It's breads and circuses. They (you can define who they are) have done a fantastic job at getting people focused on identity politics and shit that just doesn't matter while we're racing towards becoming Rome.

Believe US tax receipts to debt interest expense were single digits prior to 2022, shot to 10% in 2023, and are reported well past 25% in 2024. A recent news article said that some month's interest payments have been 75% of gross tax receipts. Meanwhile every 100 days we're adding 1 trillion more to the national debt. We're in a heap of fucking trouble and people want to worry about how people want to identify.
I know Republicans have been dragged for the idea that they will have to push retirement age, but for anyone that can do basic math, it is the harsh reality that social security is broke and there will not be money there in the future. Once the debt gets to a certain point, medicare will be up next or we'll just turn on the money printer which will further push the debt load.
