I’d love to just spell out some logic on here but it would be a complete waste of time - I think we need to just go back to letting the people who believe in Indiana State football to have at it!

We are not going to convince them otherwise and they are not going to convince those of us who have long ago moved on… Is what it is.

In closing, for the billionth time it doesn’t matter who the head coach is at Indiana State especially in this day and age without a massive influx of money the program will always be a loser. It will never move the needle in Terre Haute, IN the community will never get behind D1AA Football.

Invest in Hoops, Track, Cross Country and Baseball - if you hate that reality then either drive revenue or have sustainable success! You literally have a historic basketball program and incredible arena! You have a culture of Championship mentality in track and baseball. You have the best Cross Country course in the F’ing nation and it’s an economic engine around here from September-December. It’s actually really easy if you can just get out of your own way.

I must admit that I'm relatively ignorant when it comes to Track and Cross Country, but does either sport actually move the needle for people in Terre Haute? I've never once heard anyone talk about either sport other than on this board. Heck we couldn't hardly get anyone to rally behind the baseball team after years of success until they hosted the Regionals. I can't imagine droves of Hautians are anxiously showing up to a cross country meet. As for hosting the NCAA Championships I think that has more to do with the course and its close proximity to NCAA Headquarters than anything.

This is really easy for me to breakdown and you openly admitted your own ignorance - probably many others on this board and even locally are in the same spot.

If you’re thinking of supporting InState XC in the same context as you would basketball, baseball or football and trying to draw comparisons then just hit pause - a massive pause. Instate could have a top 25 cross country program year-over-year (they don’t - not even close) and it wouldn’t change anything from a “revenue” or fan perspective as we all think of things in looking at those other sports.

Lavern has both local, state, regional, national and international appeal - it’s a famed course with many elite runners having ran on our course over the years. It has a very rich history - transformative as far as other programs across the country trying duplicate and thus capitalize on what we’ve achieved.

Indiana State is a direct beneficiary of fans, alumni, ncaa teams, fans and family members embarking on Terre Haute to compete at Lavern. Without Indiana State, Rose Hulman, Greg Gibson and John McNichols that course never exists and Indiana State XC is as irrelevant as most XC programs throughout the country - not denying that.

Terre Haute and Indiana State has attempted to established its self as the Omaha Nebraska of Cross Country - Cross Country Town USA. They’ve still got some work to do but make no mistake LaVern Gibson is the single biggest driver to our local “tourist” economy than anything and it’s not even remotely close for second place. It’s that profound. So if your smart at that point it doesn’t matter if you love hoops, football, baseball or soccer - you saddle up and hug the shit out of the program that helps bring in the most revenue and notoriety to InState outside of hoops. Like it or not.

Money aside, being a coach with his record, it will be hard for him to enjoy that money living in a town where your regarded as a failure. That would eventually get to most people.
Most people in TH i honestly believe couldn’t name who the coach is or are concerned with his job status. A majority don’t realize there is a football team that plays other than homecoming cause there is a parade and their rug rats get to go get free candy thrown from floats. Not slamming you or anything but I think you give the people of Terre Haute way too much credit for their involvement with the University. Yes basketball last year helped, but most were just interested in free or cheap tickets not fans like a lot here envision at a Big ten or SEC setting where they bleed for their school. Hautions have never cared in general about ISU since the Bird days for any sport with the exception of basketball last year.

In fairness to the people of the Terre Haute MSA, ISU has never actually worked very hard at giving them anything to identify with. It's always been sort of, "Support ISU because...(long pause)...we're here!" Try churning out 20 win basketball teams every year for 10 or 15 years, and I think you'd see people bleeding blue and going to war for the Sycamores. We can't be sure, because it's never been tried... :ROFLMAO:

As I've said on here for 17 years, sucking for 30+ years will destroy your fan base...

It's a two-way street, it's not new, decades in the making... BOTH sides need to work better together

Not going to disagree. Until it happens, we have a football team. If it does get canceled, then so be it. Until then, it would be a blessing if after every loss, we didn’t have to hear all the negative shit over and over again.
Simply don’t watch the game if that’s the way you feel.
Like the entertainer that reads about his/her show. They simply say “Don’t Buy A ticket”

I'll give ITF a break. He and his dad supported ISU football for many years. After things went south with Mallory, I think he just decided it wasn't worth it to him to fight any longer. He was a big fan.

This is what some of you all get twisted or seem to miss in all this. We are all big fans... If they ever do the right thing it will not be a day of celebration - it's not a good thing to have to cut any sport or move down a level. It will be a sad day for current and former coaches, players, families, alumni and fans. All of us are on here because we care and are fans of Indiana State as a whole - that includes football. I'm not a fan of any other college football team I can assure of that - so I'm stuck with Indiana State football weather I like it or not. Same goes for basketball when they suck.

The timing at which you came to the conclusion that Indiana State football needs to go has nothing to do with the level at which we care/support Indiana State Football. It's a business decision and had we been making sound business decisions 10 years ago and taken care of this problem then we'd be in a much better spot as an institution.

Also, I think ITF can speak for himself... I don't think you get to pin his sole frustration on anything - specifically, "things went south with Mallory" that is awful convenient for you to sort of just weave your own agenda into his frustrations. Incredible attempt to suggest that it was just the Mallory tenure that has done a fan in.

Leas than 24 hours until kickoff and if you take all the posts out of this thread that aren’t about the game, you would have maybe two posts.

Two

Every other post is about the coach, how bad the program is, how it should be cut etc.

Two posts or so about the actual game

That tells you all you need to know about the interest anyone has in Indiana State football.

You’re making a point that was made 30 years ago. Nothing gets by you.

It could be that this is a very very very small sample of sycamore fans. I spoke with someone at the baseball game Tuesday and I mentioned sycamore pride. Their response was, “I didn’t even know sycamore pride was still a thing”. I’m glad it is, and thank you Jason, but it is a small community.

The team 90% of this board hates and wants to get rid of is 4.5 point favs tomorrow. -175 ML and O/U at 48.5. I think ISU wins by much more so I'll be searching for a book that allows FCS lines to be moved for better odds.

It is, a small, very opinionated community. Like you I’m thankful Jason spends the time he does on it.

Loaded up on the Trees at -6.5 and looking forward to what will no doubt be an Emmy Award-winning ESPN+ broadcast.
