Ron Greene seasons 11-17, 9-20, 7-21 & finally 4-24. Followed immediately by Tates Locke seasons of 8-20, 14-14, 13-15, 11-17 & finally 4-22. Not "Hell Week" but nearly "Hell Decade".

Will ISU hold out another year until the lowest low water mark is reached or can they already see the trend and be proactive and pull the plug before it really gets bad or is the bottoms out 4 wins still the exit standard ?

I wish i put half as much energy into anything as you (and others ) dogoing at Lansing...It has to be exhausting.. lol

Seriously though...we know this season has been complete shit. I think 90% of us are also sane enough to think he deserves another yr to get this thing turned back around, his first 4 yrs earned that...was that success due to odum and McKenna recruits?? We'll see...but we owe him another yr to figure it out. You want to call for an assistant to go or change in responsibilities for them??cool, im with you....the whole blow it up and start over thing after one poor season is not a recipe for sustaining a program.

He is far from perfect and we'll see if he learns how to better build a roster after this season..we learned a hard lesson about having a true pg after JO left and now we are facing the same without an athletic 3/4 for the first time.

If Bryant McIntosh had honored his commitment and our record over the last three years was 19-12, NIT appearance; 19-13 NCAA appearance and 12-12 this year would there be ANY talk of canning the HC and staff?

You'd be talking about who our next HC would be and for other reasons. A better opportunity would have presented itself for Lansing. That is how small the margin of error is at a mid major like Indiana State - pent house to dog house because of one major player...

But that "if" doesn't do anything for us right now. The above 90% is probably pretty accurate - you got a small group of forum members in the community who either had it out for Lansing prior to this season or have grown tired of him and want him gone. The rest of us have perspective and realize he's done a fairly good job during his tenure and on top of that see the economics behind our situation and it just doesn't make sense.

Shoulda coulda woulda. McIntosh didn't come here and for the third year in a row folks want Lansing gone.

To answer your question, if he did come here we would not be having this conversation. Probably discussing replacing Lansing cause he has other offers following more winning season.

Obviously I agree. Lol.

I like our incoming recruits, but am not optimistic that things will change any under GL. He's simply too one-dimensional in an era where "diversity" is the buzz word of success. As so many have previously cited, GL is TOO PREDICTABLE and an easy scout. How many times have you seen the potential benefit of a press or zone "D" just pass us by? Last week @ UNI was the 1st in MEMORY that ISU attacked the inside, going against Koch who was in foul trouble. GL is a PRACTICE coach only...samo samo during a game w/ few adjustments other than SUBSTITUTIONS.

And yes, he fails miserably in developing BIG MEN and an INSIDE GAME.

Yes, that's my PERSPECTIVE...and it's not really changed much over the past four (4) seasons.

It takes x's and o's and jimmy and joe's and we do't have either. Recruitment of players fall under the responsibility of the coach and we have only about 5-Div. 1 basketball players. Now who's fault is that? And you want to try our luck with another try. Let's just be mediocre. How many more?

I hate to see someone lose their job. I wanted Locke and Green to get one more chance. I am torn on what to do this time. I would like to give him another chance and I also think this season was his one more chance. I am glad I don't have to make the decision.

Some of what uve said is right on..id argue this is the first yr where we flat out just dont have mvc level guys at multiple positions under him..his lack of diversity has arguably kept him from winning more in the past...but in the present this has much more to do with our recruiting...we just flat out dont have mvc 3s and 4s..

Ron Greene seemed to have everything going for him, successful everywhere he had been, hometown boy. Not being around TH or vicinity, with no ESPN# or Sycamore Vision or Sycamore Pride when he or Locke were in charge. Why were they not successful? Anyone?

Hell Bank its been longer than that.

Tuff,
I wonder what you do for a living. You can't be in the world of commerce and business. When someone can't get the job done they need to be replaced.

Greene had been @ New Orleans (Nate Mills, THN recruit), Mississippi State ('77 SEC COY) and Murray State and in essence, lost his recruiting ties in Indiana. He brought a Bronx, NY native (Al Perry) with him from MS...used him to recruit Loyd Daniels from the nearby Queens playground. He was supposed to be Greene's MCINTOSH, but ended up NOT meeting ISU's "scholastic requirements"...can you imagine that? Of course, "no problemo" getting into Tarkanian's UNLV.

Greene thought he walked on water...treated his Basketball Office as if he was @ UCLA, not ISU. Never forget driving up from FL for ISU Homecoming in '86 and meeting Perry in the Bally...had a "silver streak" dyed in his hair - hell, I thought the "Skunk Look" was kosher during the "big hair" era in TH. Also thought Perry had watched too many Isaac Hayes "Shaft" reruns. Coming from the deep South to TH, he must've thought that he was back in NYC.

Locke networked off of the image of RMK...not even close. Almost as dogmatic as Greene...no wonder Army fired his ass!

I hate to see anybody lose their job- I know I was fired twice, but us coaches know the lay of the land before we enter the profession. Sometimes it's nobody's fault but things just do'nt work. The game is made up of x's and o's but you need the "jimmy and joes" and we seem to have neither. We have probably have only 5- Div. 1 players on this roster and the recruitment of players is the responsibity of the coach. Something is wrong because we are not competive and it seems like we are trying to squares in circles and it is not working. I don't think Clink will fire our coach but I think he knows something is a mess and probably can't fix it and will probably walk if he could find something. There's nobody on this board that hopes I'm wrong than me. I hope we run the table and win out. I will always be and support the Blue but I'm really tired of being mediocre in most of our sports. I could be wrong and I hope I am.

The MVC (like most mid majors) favors the experienced teams with strong upper class players. Our league doesn't get too many impact freshman, and if they get enough playing time and points to have a real impact, it's most likely they are playing for a weak team.

Of our three seniors, one is a valuable contributor, one is a solid player but coming back from a major injury as well as a mid year "hiatus" that didn't help and two are just not MVC caliber. Of our juniors, one is an All league talent, one is just not up to MVC standards as he is undersized, fouls too much on defense and cannot finish around the basket and the third who knows because he never sees the floor.

So that leaves us with three consistent contributors from our two upper classes.

We have six sophomores and freshman. Three I know can play in the MVC, and three I just don't know.

When your upperclass contributions come from three guys, it's going to be a long year which it has been. While Lansing ultimately takes the blame as the head of the program and the one who signed off on their offers, I put more blame (or at least as much) on his assistants.

I am fine with GL coming back, but if everyone on staff returns I will be disappointed. Our recruiting has not been good enough. It seems that for every one player we bring in that is an MVC caliber player, we bring in two that are not.
