Here’s an incredibly refreshing quote from our incoming prez…

“When we think about athletics, it is one of the front porches of the institution,” he said. “We want to make sure that we utilize that as an opportunity for all students to be engaged in campus life, to be engaged in what is going on.”

Athletics “gives us an opportunity to brand the institution and have that institutional awareness not only regionally, which is incredibly important, but also nationally and beyond, to be able to attract students,” he said.

Hopefully he truly means that and it is not just lip service.

Been really happy with Godard so far - am thinking we got it right for a number of reasons. Wouldn't want to hide from the fact that I was very critical of Indiana State for not moving on Biff Williams who was a finalist for two other President job openings including our own.

Well... https://www.news-leader.com/story/n...ents-vulgar-incident-in-last-job/76274113007/

Given that we've had enough negative noise and press - especially administratively, it's probably good we avoided this one.

"Williams was accused of leaving a display of vegetables arranged in a "sexual and obscene" manner on the front porch of a Utah Tech official who was recovering from a vasectomy. Williams left a note at the scene referring to the long zucchini as a "zuweenie" but instead of signing his own name, he signed the name of three of their colleagues. Williams sent a message to the campus Saturday morning. In it, he referred to the "zuweenie" incident as a mistake, a prank and a "lapse in judgment."

Yikes. Realizing that a "prank" probably isn't going to be received well and signing your coworkers names on it isn't a "lack of judgement", it's premeditation.

Whose name was redacted, I wonder. Someone who didn't think it was worth suing over? Was it childish, sure.....but come on man. How does making a light-hearted joke about the guy getting his "manhood" snipped, escalate into a federal lawsuit? Life is a lot more fun if you relax and take a joke from time to time. I highly doubt there wasn't any malicious intent and I can't believe it has been pushed to a federal lawsuit. Actually, nevermind....I can. That's what is wrong with society today, too many people looking to sue and make mountains out of mole hills. Even if you thought it was a bad idea, just say that and tell the person you didn't appreciate what was done and work it out. Now someone may lose their job over, at worst, a tacky joke. GTFOH

It's not the joke that's the problem. If that's all it was, all it takes is a slap on the wrist and taking a "sensitivity class" and everyone moves on. The problem is signing other people's names on the email and dragging them and their reputations into the incident. That's why this clown deserves to get fired and everything else that's coming his way.

I guess i just don't take it that serious. I can see the issue with putting others' names on there but I sure as hell wouldn't take it to a federal lawsuit. I just don't see how someone would respond like that unless the joke wasn't taken well, which goes back to my original post on the subject. Laugh it off, speak your peace if you had any problem with it and move on. But i guess that doesn't get you a large stack of cash.

I doubt too many people have a sense of humor at a university that's so woke that they decided that they needed to change their name from Dixie State to Utah Tech.
