He's going to be a really solid player from them. He has come on here late in the year. That being said I'm not going to dwell on him not coming here. He was a top 100 recruit. Did we realistically have a chance at him? Probably why Lansing did not go after him. He will be a pain in the rear but next year I'll still take JO over him, and to be honest with Mcintosh coming in the next year I'm not going to lose any sleep over losing Fred VanVleet. Congrats to the shockers though!! Way to represent the valley!

I've watched Wichita several times on TV this year. Van Fleet will challenge for MVC POY as a junior and senior. I havent read any of the old discussion on him, but he will be a headache for all Valley teams and fans the next 3 years. Dont see many freshman with the confidence or moxy that this kid has displayed during this tournament run. The shot against Gonzaga comes to mind

I'm not going to go back to post of 2012 on this topic re:VanVleet to form my comments because I don't need to. VanVleet AND Baker are a helluva guard tandem which will be a pain in the ass to ALL teams in an out of conference. Both of these guys demonstrated cool, calm presence in the heat of a close game near the end. Both are tough competitors and without reservation I would love to have them as Sycamores. But that isn't the case so I might as well shit in one hand and wish with the other...such is life. We will survive since we have a couple of very good recruits coming in at the guard position.

Not to take anything from him, but I really like Scott and McIntosh.
Again, not the point.

Further, he would be one and two years ahead of them if you consider redshirts. Second, we landed Cummings who is essentially a point guard in that class. My issue is this kid was a national level recruit with Indiana State ties and that 2012 class consisted of Dawon Cummings, Rhett Smith, TJ Bell and Michael Sameuls. Would he have picked ISU? Don't know. But we didn't even put our hat into the ring.

Keep drilling it home, drill it home. Something tells me you won't get out of it what your putting in.

Did not intend it to be the point and my point being to state my like for our two future recruits. Again our recruitment is get the best player we can who would consider coming to ISU in Terre Haute which restricts our recruiting, like the it or not.

His uncle went on record to say we didn't even try. Restrictions are one thing, efforting with an offer is another.

Again, not the point. His recruitment is long gone.

Point being is someone was asleep at the wheel during the 2012 recruiting cycle. We want to bitch about not winning and the crux of the matter is we've not recruited high level MVC-caliber players save for a few guys on the roster.

Hahaha Ok I get it.

Clarification are you saying we are not trying to recruit at the highest level?

Now? No.

Recruiting has markedly improved in those that we target and offer. The offer lists for the 2013 and 2014 classes are light years ahead of 2012 and prior.

I really would like to stop hearing excuses about having to "settle" for someone who would (lower themselves, presumably, to) consider ISU, and gulp, Terre Haute. Part of recruiting is selling your product. Every time I hear that we are restricted by ISU and Terre Haute, it makes me wonder who has the bad image in mind, the kids or the staff? I'm not sure exactly how bad ISU and Terre Haute are, but it sounds like we might have an inferiority complex. And that would be bad. Very, very bad.

Terre Haute and ISU should be a strength, not a hindrance. If it's not being used as a strength, we need to get some help in figuring out how to sell it that way. Funny how the admissions office isn't having any trouble selling ISU and Terre Haute, but some on this board feel that we should be ashamed of it. That's a load of crap.

I'm done. I'm getting more and more angry as I type...

Couldn't have said it better myself. If our coaches are making excuses for reasons why they can't recruit than they should be shown the door.

I can get behind this. You all should take a walk with a recruit and Indiana State assistant track coach Geoff Wayton (who makes less than $30k annually) He and his twin brother came to Indiana State to run Track and XC from New Jersey in the late 90s. The guy knows more about the history of Terre Haute and Indiana State than people who have lived here for over 30 years - the guy sells the place to each and every recruit who comes on campus and get this excuse makers:

Indiana State Track and XC can't sell the program on facilities - we don't have an indoor track and our outdoor track sucks - simply put it's the worst track facilities in division 1 athletics. How is it that we are still able to get high school state champions to come run for Indiana State year in and year out and turn them into National Champions and basketball coaches use Terre Haute and Indiana State as an excuse as to why things can't work. Lame!

The number one thing a track coach can sell an athlete on is facilities - we don't have them and still get first rate kids to our program!!!

It's not good enough people! Terre Haute is not an excuse - come up with something better than that weak shit. So what your telling me is some $28,000 a year track coach does a better job of selling Indiana State and Terre Haute than some $70,000 a year assistant hoops coach? Is that what your trying to say? We can go down this road if you want, my guess is you don't want to do that longgone.
