[Offered] '16 IL SF Nick Robinson

WANTED: Passionate Sycamore Fanatics. That You?

Register NOW to join our community of die-hard Sycamore fans.

Paperwork issue..Robinson wanted to sign and I'll leave it at that. Unfortunately we have to wait until the spring now and with kids these days you never know what can/will happen.

And this is what has me worried. Whether his intentions were good or not, this leaves ISU vulnerable in that he can sign with another school. If he's the steal that most seem to think he is, there's a strong chance others come knocking. I just hope his ties to the coaching staff and university are strong that he sticks to his commitment, but we have a long time to wait and see.

Just saw that too.

Top 10 senior Kenwood 2016 small forward Nick Robinson has confirmed exclusively with PrepHoopsIllinois that he has decommitted from Indiana State. Robinson committed back in the fall, but did not sign his national letter of intent in November. He told us why he has decided to reopen his recruitment.

“I feel that I did not give myself sufficient time to identify the opportunities that are available to me. Indiana State’s program and coaching staff was impressive, so I made a quick decision, however it was premature. This important decision was made during a highly emotional time, as I recently lost my brother and father. At the time I just wanted to move my life forward. Now, I know that it is best for me to not rush the process and take the time to discuss with my family members.”

Robinson is a big and physical wing that when he is locked in can flat out score! His combination of strength and athleticism make him intriguing at the next level. He can drive to the hoop and score slashing in the lane. Also works well posting his man up and making quick moves on the block against smaller defenders. The senior checks in at #8 overall and the #2 small forward in the 2016 class.

He becomes the top available wing in Illinois and the second highest rated uncommitted prospect in his class.

Initial reaction is a little anger, but reality is if you read his reasoning, you can't fault the kid....and at least he announced this in January, and not way later.

Good luck Nick! Course, now I have no reason to come watch you play down in Hyde Park.

I would imagine the big boys started calling and that's when the "commitment" to the program is really tested. At least this gives the staff time to go hard after a quality JC wing. We need someone who can play right away at that 3 spot next year.

Pretty much.

Will be interesting to see if they kept contact with any of the other kids we offered. Two of them are three-star kids per Rivals and both are still uncommitted. If they didn't, we'll likely see another JUCO and I'd rather us not with our success and what I'm seeing left in the pile.

Agree. If they can afford it and I am not sure what they can and can't afford at this time (I don't get paid to make those decisions), I'd rather see it go unfilled for a year... But I don't keep track of scholarships and recruiting close enough to say one way or another, I leave that to you experts!

Deep down I think we all new this was coming.

Truth is he had bigger names come by and he took the bait. Plain and simple. He wants a bigger program and a bigger name on the front of the jersey.

He can go and talk to the hundreds of kids who transfer a year for making a similar decision and see how that worked out for them.

Time to move on. Plenty of fish in the sea.

It is probably more important to carry an open spot now than in the past. With the advent of the transfers for their final year "for a selected major" or whatever that rule is? Butler has a point guard this year and had another last year & especially Altman out in Oregon seems to have one every season and Bielfield is one who comes to mind down in Bloomington. Lots of other examples where you fill a specific position with one of those senior "one & dones" and it seems to be working in a lot of places. Another factor 700+ players transferred last year so there is a large pool there now too. Too bad to lose someone who gave you his word but better now than later I suppose. Would wish the kid well but I can't.

agree with everyone, saw this coming a mile away, no surprise, we'll get someone as good or better, but holding an open scholarship can work in our favor, maybe we get a 5th year kid from somewhere?

During the Drake game they announced last year there were 700 transfers among D-I players, that's a LOT of transfers.

6'5" Forwards are a dime a dozen. Put him in the same boat w/ McIntosh and let him sail the Chicago River...and see where it leads.
Another AAUitis (or anus) itch that the Sycamores don't have to mess with.:lowfive:

In the last few years Depauw could probably have beat DePaul about half of the games? Can't believe that no local Chicago team, especially DePaul can't be a factor in the Big East every season?

They've never really replaced Ray Meyer, his kid didn't do a bad job but I agree with you... With all of the talent in that city, how is DePaul NOT a national power... Same question for St John's....

Easy recruiting ground (NYC/surrounding megalopolis) for schools w/ sizable recruiting budgets...and local kids can use BASKETBALL as an upward mobility "travel ticket." Can ya blame them for desiring to play in FL, NC, CA or KY...compared to NYC? Very similar to Indiana today, as IU/PU & ND no longer hold the "key" to hoop success, as shown by the exodus of talent to non-Hoosier schools w/ good programs.

Curious...what's Joey up to NOW? Latest I could find...7 yrs. old:
