I fully understand we will not be Firing GL . I fully understand we can not afford to do so . I also understand that there is allot of talent on this team . There is the problem . We have had talent on this team for the past several years . Some want to compare his record to what Waltmans was so I will ask besides David Moss what talent did Royce have outside of Moss? Are we really making excuses for a team that has underachieved for the past 5 years? Does 1 or 2 years make up for 5 years of sub 500?

Lets say that we are a contender the next 2 years do you reward GL with a new 5 year deal? Do you extend him should this year be successful? Do you hold him accountable and only extend him for a year ? Do you hold him hostage every year the way he seems to be holding the university hostage?

A bus ticket out of town when we can pay the ransom. Half of the aged fan base will be dead and gone before he is it appears.
 
Back to my original question that got sidetracked with discussion of GL and how he is the worst thing ever,......

Does anyone know who the young man is playing with this summer in AAU?

Nobody is happy with the last few years. But, once it was apparent that GL was coming back, I wish him nothing but the best. I will never hope we lose just to get another coach. Plus with the returning players, and by all accounts an excellent recruiting class, I'm feeling optimistic. And as I said, I'm hearing a lot of positives.

I think I might cheer for Lansing harder than ever just in-spite of certain people and the attitude they have. It's pretty fair to have a salty opinion about him and where he has taken the program the last several years. Like - to feel that way is pretty justified. We've talked about all the "excuses" Lansing has to why this might have happened - so I will not bore anyone with that conversation again.

I just really have to wonder - at what point do people come to the realization that he's still our coach and the "excuses" that I failed to mention above are largely the reason he's still our coach - not the deplorable record that you all want to point to that isn't really that deplorable in the grand scheme of things. So why not just put your emotion of not wanting him to be our coach to the side for the next 9 months or so and see how things go?? Then next February/March/April we can re-visit this whole thing and see what happens? I mean - this idea that shit-canning is fine if he's got unlimited resources and performing the way he has or he's doing something illegal these scenarios go on and on and on... But you can't just shit-can a coach - keep all other things around him that help the program be successful or not in the first place the same and think things will change... I assure you they will not and we will be right back to having this same conversation 10 years down the road.

All I'm trying to say - we know that many of you want Lansing gone. You're justified to feel that way - no one is denying you of the right or even the cause to feel that way. We've discussed it over and over again - can we just leave that out of the narrative and enjoy the off-season and season for a few months? If not and you really just want to belly-ache about Lansing in every possible thread then why not just go be a Southern IL fan or some other fan that is really experienced at hiring and firing coaches - maybe that is a better environment for you as a fan!

I don't know ISUCC personally. It seems he's a passionate ISU fan and lord knows we need that. I just don't understand the constant pessimism and almost hoping for bad things, that some around here seem to thrive on. I come on here to get the latest on our programs, and hopefully some positive information. I have zero desire to get into arguments with other people here. I do vent from time to time after a bad performance, but try not to be all negative and combative. Go Sycamores!

I’ve known him for 10 plus years & he probably doesn’t care for me to publicize this but it’s easily attainable information - he’s donated quite a bit of money to Indiana State over the years. He’s as big of a fan and supporter of Indiana State that you will find. He’s a former athlete and McNichols product - that’s certainly worth something.

But he’s about as negative, knee jerk, hot take etc etc of a fan as anyone will ever meet. He’s not combative at all - you’re just not going to convince him of anything once he see’s it, thinks it he believes it... He’s a good enough guy - but seeing as he is the guy who coined the “February Collapse” or whatever month it is that seems to have stuck for some reason (maybe because it’s part true I don’t have any idea) he’s pretty easy to label as negative.

I know one thing he’s positive about - Luke F’ing Brown! He’s positive on that kid.
 
The fact that the kid only has a couple offers means a lot of coaches have the same red flags or question marks. Sometimes we overthink recruiting but these kids log thousands of hours of competitive basketball by the time they're able to be offered, many having been in front of college coaches from middle school.

If there is one thing Lansing does well, it's evaluate talent. I'm not discounting how good Brown is/isn't, but if it isn't about talent, there is obviously other factors that Lansing and staff knows that leads them to believe it wouldn't be prudent to spend time recruiting him. Recruiting is a two way street, too. If this kid was interested in Indiana State, all he would have to do is have his high school coach or AAU coach contact the staff and let them know.

Time to resurrect the Luke Brown traveling road show thread! Tonight they're playing at a sold out Alexandria gym, the game is getting ready to start on the Blackford Sports Network, so tune in!


Blackford is 3-0 on the season, Luke is averaging around 30 points or so a game, with many assists per game too. Blackford has a very nice team

Blackford wins 98-85, Brown was on fire, 34 points, a gazillion assists (14), 5 rebounds, an all around good game.

if his team typically gives up this many points in a game, he will have a lot of work to do in college to be ready to play Div 1 defense
