I was setting here thinking about the history of this series. You know it’s really really sad if nobody tried to get a deal to get Larry and Magic to this game and it would be even worse if somebody did and they turned them down.
Think of the increased exposure this matchup would get with them there. Being nostalgic this is probably the last chance for that to happen, wish somebody would have thought about it.

I can’t speak for Michigan State (obviously) and I don’t have any first hand knowledge from Indiana State - but from what I understand an effort was made to get Larry in attendance. If not, it would be another big miss in a long line misses by Indiana State.
They’re in their mid-60’s…let’s hope this isn’t the last chance.
We’ve heard Larry won’t be there, but that doesn't mean much to me considering the tiny chance Magic would come to the Haute if we were hosting.
Besides shooting a ton of 3"s, one thing about Tom Izzo's teams, they always have been always in the top of nation rebounding, hitting those boards. With Big Ten Officials it will be a much more physical game. If we can get off to good start and hang with them in the first half will definitely have a chance.
I believe the Breslin arena can hold 15,000, its going to be tough, but I believe our guys will be ready for this special moment. Yes, it would have been nice if both Magic and Bird, showed up for the game.

I don't think Larry wants to show up only to overshadow our players. I think our players get that. This game is about our current team...not Larry.
I think it would mean more to our players if Larry would just show up for a practice some time....outside the spotlight of the cameras.

Although I get the sentiment with our team this year being very special, the fact of the matter is we aren’t playing this game with out Larry and the ‘79 squad. This is an anniversary game, so I would expect the majority of the pregame press to be that.
As someone mentioned earlier, so sad ISU doesn’t have more ‘79 themed merchandise readily available for $$.

Then at least give us a new flavor of it. Did the current team watch any of the games? What do they think about it? What can they take away from that run? How about co-mingling some of the old guys with the new in an interview? It's just the same stale stuff we get every time they roll this out and dust it off.

I feel pretty good about this game....doesn't mean we will win, but I feel like we will play well. You can bet your ass I will be bringing this little "article" up if we do beat them. Wouldn't a result similar to our last trip to Bloomington be fun.....I can't wait for Saturday.

There is possibly a year I'm forgetting, but last time I remember us getting votes was 2005 when we started 9-0, then Moss got hurt and the wheels came off. The only thing that stood out that year was beating IU, Ball State and Butler all in a row.

I get the sentiment, but that would be a distraction. Send a personal note (maybe he has communicated in some way), but as fans and alums, let's just let the man cheer for the team privately without constant expectations. The rematch is cool, but even here the conversation drifts to Bird a lot. I'm more curious how we'll stack up against a solid Big 10 team on the road.

It would be an honor to them to be able to play in front of him. He’s an alum who doesn’t make it back often and the times he has it’s been for teams that are playing really well or special occasions. When he’s in the building it’s got an extra buzz & and excitement to it - he brings that energy with his presence alone.
Spare me with this bull shit that some how he’d be a distraction to this current team. Some of you all either ain’t giving this current team enough credit for how they’ve handled their business or some of you all way too deep into your emotions already and overly protective of them handling them with kid gloves. Either way disrespectful.
It’s a God damn basketball game for goodness sakes. These kids don’t care who they play in front of - they’re playing for eachother, playing for the name on the front of the jersey, playing for a coach who believes in them, playing for family and friends cheering them on, playing for a chance to play at the next level and be recognized on a national stage. That’s what they care about.

The conversation went to the only thing left to discuss with that many days in between games.
