How does this class stack up against the classes of other Gateway teams as reported over on ValleyTalk? Seems like a good one, to me. Of course, that means less than nothing...
Gotta love the connection to the Bengals. I gotta think that will actually help recruiting.
I was also expecting more Jucos and transfers...
SydCamore, whadda 'ya think???
IndyTree,
I don't want to compare at this point. To be honest with you, the kids that go to FCS school are always under the radar. However, I will say this............ We have got a GREAT recruiting class. I have seen video on all of the players that are coming in.
For what it's worth, here is my opinion on who to watch.............
Evan Borchers - OL from Cincinnatti Colerain High School, 6'2" 275. Look for him to start right away. Simply put, Evan blows people off the line. He was recruited by many Division I schools.
Aaron Archie - LB from Detroit Cass Tech, 6'0" 190, very quick and very physical.
Julian Easterly - 6'1" 180lbs, DB from Detroit Cass Tech, very fast. This kid has good size for a DB. He was recruited by Michigan State.
Nathaniel Williams - DE 6'3", 260 (conservate estimate), New Haven, MI. Very big. He will probably be moved to DT because he may not be able to turn the corner quick enough. However, he would be a good defensive end. I think he will play right away.
Antoine Brown - JR RB 5-9 190. Transfer from Kentucky. Quick, plain and simple. Don't underestimate the fact that he has been practicing against SEC defensive players for two years
Taylor Johnson - RB 5-10, 215. Bartram High School, Jacksonville, FL. STRONG kid. Son of fromer Bear/Colt/Jag Anthony Johnson. This kid has great speed and a knack for the game. He will not shy away from contact, so he will help in pass protection.
Tony Morang - FB 5-11 225lb. Lake Central HS, IN. This kid has fullback size and halfback speed. Look for him to play early in Coach Miles' system. The previous administration did not use fullbacks so our supply is low.
Jordan Bright - 6'7". 225 lb DE - Wyoming High School, OH. LONG. He is not the quickest kid, but his length makes up for it. His lenth will be great for knocking down passes. Look for him to play next year.
Mike Smith - OL 6'3" 280. Penn High School, Mishawaka, IN. This kid is Big and Physical. Look for him to play the interior line. He could see some action next year.
Aaron Stewart - 6'6" 255 OL. Jeffersonville, IN. This kid is tall, not thick. However, he moves well and will make blocks down the field.
Brock Lough - LB 6'0" 200 lb. Terre Haute South. TH, IN. Good football player. This kid was a good running back in high school. He was also a very good linebacker. He plays the game very smart. He obviously knows how to play.
Marcus Lewis - 6'1" 205. Indiana Hills, Cincy, OH. Son of Bengals coach Marvin Lewis. He plays like a coaches son, obviously. He is quick and tackles well. I think this connection will help in the recruiting game.
There are many other great looking kids. I can provide more information if requested.
Coach Miles and his staff have put together a great recruiting class. I look for quite a few of these kids to play early next year. These kids are very athletic. We have 31 signees, in years past we would have 15 - 20. I am very excited about this class.
Do not forget that we have many great players already on the roster. I look for this program to improve quick.
Go TREES!
