:sycamores:

The offensive coordinator is Bill Dietrick. Coach Diedrick was the offensive coordinator at Notre Dame during the Tyrone Willingham days. He coached/recruited Brady Quinn at Notre Dame and also coached Drew Bledsoe at Washington State.

I'm very impressed with the resumes of the guys Trent Miles has hired.

How does this class stack up against the classes of other Gateway teams as reported over on ValleyTalk? Seems like a good one, to me. Of course, that means less than nothing...

Gotta love the connection to the Bengals. I gotta think that will actually help recruiting.

I was also expecting more Jucos and transfers...

SydCamore, whadda 'ya think???

IndyTree,

I don't want to compare at this point. To be honest with you, the kids that go to FCS school are always under the radar. However, I will say this............ We have got a GREAT recruiting class. I have seen video on all of the players that are coming in.

For what it's worth, here is my opinion on who to watch.............

Evan Borchers - OL from Cincinnatti Colerain High School, 6'2" 275. Look for him to start right away. Simply put, Evan blows people off the line. He was recruited by many Division I schools.

Aaron Archie - LB from Detroit Cass Tech, 6'0" 190, very quick and very physical.

Julian Easterly - 6'1" 180lbs, DB from Detroit Cass Tech, very fast. This kid has good size for a DB. He was recruited by Michigan State.

Nathaniel Williams - DE 6'3", 260 (conservate estimate), New Haven, MI. Very big. He will probably be moved to DT because he may not be able to turn the corner quick enough. However, he would be a good defensive end. I think he will play right away.

Antoine Brown - JR RB 5-9 190. Transfer from Kentucky. Quick, plain and simple. Don't underestimate the fact that he has been practicing against SEC defensive players for two years

Taylor Johnson - RB 5-10, 215. Bartram High School, Jacksonville, FL. STRONG kid. Son of fromer Bear/Colt/Jag Anthony Johnson. This kid has great speed and a knack for the game. He will not shy away from contact, so he will help in pass protection.

Tony Morang - FB 5-11 225lb. Lake Central HS, IN. This kid has fullback size and halfback speed. Look for him to play early in Coach Miles' system. The previous administration did not use fullbacks so our supply is low.

Jordan Bright - 6'7". 225 lb DE - Wyoming High School, OH. LONG. He is not the quickest kid, but his length makes up for it. His lenth will be great for knocking down passes. Look for him to play next year.

Mike Smith - OL 6'3" 280. Penn High School, Mishawaka, IN. This kid is Big and Physical. Look for him to play the interior line. He could see some action next year.

Aaron Stewart - 6'6" 255 OL. Jeffersonville, IN. This kid is tall, not thick. However, he moves well and will make blocks down the field.

Brock Lough - LB 6'0" 200 lb. Terre Haute South. TH, IN. Good football player. This kid was a good running back in high school. He was also a very good linebacker. He plays the game very smart. He obviously knows how to play.

Marcus Lewis - 6'1" 205. Indiana Hills, Cincy, OH. Son of Bengals coach Marvin Lewis. He plays like a coaches son, obviously. He is quick and tackles well. I think this connection will help in the recruiting game.

There are many other great looking kids. I can provide more information if requested.

Coach Miles and his staff have put together a great recruiting class. I look for quite a few of these kids to play early next year. These kids are very athletic. We have 31 signees, in years past we would have 15 - 20. I am very excited about this class.

Do not forget that we have many great players already on the roster. I look for this program to improve quick.

Go TREES!

One Assistant told me tonight they expect "5" wins next year. That may be a bit of wishful thinking..but don't be surprised. There's a new Sheriff in town with a whole new way of thinking and his assistants are on board with him. They are going to take this program forward in GIANT steps.

Always remember, our players are Division 1 football players. Coaching makes a huge difference. There is no way to sugarcoat my feelings about the previous administration............. Great Men, Not great football coaches. As Ong said, "There is a new Sheriff in town"

Wow! Sure looks like Trent has taken the bull by the horns, and won't be settling for competing I heard him say (they had his remarks on GoSycamores.com) that they beat out Navy for one kid. That's pretty impressive. I can't imagine being excited about football season in February, but I'm kinda stoked! I'd love to see them start winning so we could build support for a state of the art stadium on campus. I know the stadium will happen, but winning can mean the difference between a $20M stadium and a $50M stadium.

I am ready for football!!! (I never thought I'd hear myself say that...)

Too True Indy............. I can't wait until Spring Football. It will be interesting to see how excited the guys are. I know they are all excited, they are more of a "TEAM" now. I have heard so many good things about the coaches.

First I just want to thank everyone for the informative posts.

I spoke to Coach Miles at the N Iowa basketball game earlier this year - bending his ear about a kid from my daughter's HS (Mascoutah, IL) that wanted to come to ISU. He was very polite and tolerant of my unsolicited opinions and spoke of wanting kids with heart - tapping his chest while he spoke. Without ever coaching a game for ISU, Coach Miles has me excited about ISU football for the first time in a decade. BTW, looks like the kid I was touting will sign with the Air Force Academy.
Go Trees.

Awesome! The films that I have seen on this kid are very impressive. He is HUGE! I think he will play early.

The Jordan Bright Report: ISU Football Recruit Stars On/Off Court

Reports from today's Cincinnati Enquirer:

Wyoming 63, Indian Hill 59 : Jordan Bright scored a game-high 18 points and pulled down 15 rebounds to lead host Wyoming.

Junior forward Tanner Stacey added 16 points for the Cowboys (14-6), ranked No. 9 in the Divisions II-IV coaches' poll.

Wyoming trainer gets his shot
BY MARK CHALIFOUX | [email protected]

His first shot clanged off the side of the rim.

The rebound was tipped back to him and this time, Wyoming senior Mike Ames squared up just inside the three-point line and ripped the chords with a long shot.

As Ames ran down the court holding his arm up in the air, the arena erupted and fans, players and even the coaches began jumping in up and down.

The score was 2-0.

Wyoming senior co-captain Mike Ames has Down syndrome and made his first appearance on the court for the Cowboys in the senior night game against Indian Hill.

Ames has been a student manager for the football and basketball teams all four years and Friday night was his first chance to represent Wyoming in action.

Wyoming head coach Tony Gentry and Indian Hill head coach David Moss arranged before the game to let Wyoming win the tip and to let Ames take the game's first shot.

"I was nervous, but I knew the second one was going in," said Greg Ames, Mike's father.

"I was just enormously blown away by the moment. It was really cool for the team to make an opportunity for him to do that.

"My face hurts from trying to soak it all in.

"It couldn't have been more perfect."

Ames said he was ready for his appearance.

"I was excited, I wasn't nervous," he said. "I like basketball."

Gentry said the decision to start Ames on senior night was easy, but because Wyoming has six seniors one would have to start the game on the bench.

"Before I could even ask the team who should sit Alex Kamphaus came to me and said Mike could start in his place," Gentry said.

"Jordan Bright wanted to give up his spot too. That's just the nature of kindness.

"It's probably the most unselfish thing I've ever seen."

Wyoming athletic director Jim Barre said Ames is a popular kid and that everyone in the school loves him.

"The athletes have really taken him under their wing, some of his best friends are athletes here," Barre said.

"They treat him just like one of the others, he's just one of their friends."

Gentry said the team practiced his play the day before the game and that he was so excited to see Ames in the game.

He also said Ames is known around the team for his sense of humor.

"He's a comedian. He's so funny, he has a great sense of humor," Gentry said.

"I'm glad we could get him in. He deserved it."

This is a really strange feeling. I think I'm kind of excited about the upcoming football season. I'm not sure, because I haven't felt this feeling since, oh, I don't know when. But I really think it might be excitement...:meditate:

I am also excited about ISU Football. I do not forsee them winning right away because their schedule is brutal. However, they should win a few games.

Coach Miles will change the attitudes and the expectations immediately. We will no longer be as far from the other teams as we have been. We used to compete in this conference and we will again.

By the way......................

I don't know about any of you other posters, but the fact that Raetz is still associated with ISU FB is a bit disturbing to me. I thought ISU was trying to rid itself of the people involved in the "good ol' boys" network, yet they retain Raetz for defense, ISU's worst problem.

I hope this isn't a permanent move by Miles.

It doesn't bother me at all. When Raetz was the man his defenses weren't the problem. In the roll he has taken on it doesn't hurt one bit. Raetz isn't running the D, he's just helping out. Also as we point out, we want to compete early on, Raetz's teams for the most part weren't push overs. It's a minor hire. Miles is one of Raetz's "Good ole' boys" , but in a different text.
