Agree but the last couple games have felt a little "load managementy" and we could get away with based on who we played. Same with sitting Cam the entire 2nd half today. Had we lost, we could have a gripe but if the guys have fresh legs when it matters, I'd prefer that.
Totally, when you look a mins played in Valley our highest guy is McCauley at #20 in the whole MVC.

Was the "Big Bird Crew" in there today? Heard a lot of boo birds on the radio.

Who is "Big Bird" anyways? I'd like to know his name so I can get a visual. Then maybe I can troll him all game from the first row like I do with Gerry Pollard.

Interesting comments regarding Cooper. He talks about Coop’s “bad reputation” upon his arrival at ISU. Curious what he meant by that.
On the post-game radio interview JS said that he was told that Coop couldn't play defense and that he didn't do much of anything well besides shoot the ball.

JS interviews are always interesting to unpack…

I don’t really agree with his “bad reputation” description - maybe he was talking to @sycamoreback and not me?? Because I wouldn’t have had too much bad to say about Cooper Neese. He’s never been a complete player here… But other than that I don’t understand the criticism?? Not his own - but what he was “hearing” like who are you talking to?

And I get that he hasn’t played for “Championships” but again this insinuation that Cooper Neese has played on shitty ass basketball teams is such bull shit. What is JS talking about? Dude has been 4th, 4th and now 4th in the last 3 seasons of conference play. Like I have no idea what he’s talking about insinuating that Cooper hasn’t won here?! Again this isn’t the first time he’s made these comments about Cooper.

I will say - I’ve come to the conclusion that JS like his team has a little chip on his shoulder it would seem… Nothing wrong with it. But it seems to really come out in his answers to these questions. I’m not sure that I see eye-to-eye with his understanding of the way Cooper’s career has transpired here and what sort of situation he walked into. I’d tell him as much man to man. I probably wouldn’t change his mind - but that wouldn’t stop me.

And before anyone gets all defensive or anything… Very impressed, happy, proud of what JS has been able to accomplish in year 2 on the job. It’s been a hell of season so far! Long way to go hopefully.

Pretty sure he was talking his off-the-court stuff.

That’s fair. Most of the off court stuff was very very early in his career. I’m sorry but if we’re evaluating the past 15 years of ISU Hoops and the top 25 or so players. Cooper Neese on or off the court would probably be one of our least concerns or complained about players.

Ohhhhh did Cooper not make a 3.5 gpa for 4 years. Give me a break. I’m sorry I’m not buying the off the court bull shit either. I just don’t buy it. After year one - maybe year 2 of Cooper - absolutely buying that. But come on…

I thought his praise of Coop was effusive -he was just relating what he was told, not what his opinion about Cooper was.

It was effusive - but he acts like this growth and development has all happened on his watch. If you want to believe that and buy that - then good for you. I’m not. I’m going to keep calling these things out.

I’m certain of two things:

1. JS knows more about basketball and coaching basketball than I will ever know.

2. I have a better handle on the players that were here before him and the history of this program pre JS than the will ever have and it’s not a close call.

I love that we can even talk about his sound bites though… Like without his interviews we wouldn’t have a whole lot to talk about. 7 straight wins - 6 straight double digit wins. Just crazy.

Frame/point of reference though, right?

When he came in last year, he had to be briefed by someone. Odds are some of the support staff that was still around. It's also possible that Graves reached out to his Butler folks for info, too. That said, it's not like he put too much credence into it either, right? Because he obviously met with him and felt comfortable enough to ask him to return.

I think the “too much credence” portion of your comment is where it hits me. It hits me with the comments last week about inheriting a program that was empty and hits me again with the Cooper comments.

It’s the regularity of it… Like he’s belaboring these points and it’s odd to me because when you unpack them it’s really not all that accurate. I don’t think he’s trying to be deceptive. I just think he’s wrong or framing these things incorrectly.

All that said - I’d be being disingenuous myself if I didn’t say that GL himself had directly to me made not so endorsing remarks about Cooper especially early in his career.

I will say this - in a few years we won’t have to worry about him talking about the past or players he inherited. Because he’s going to have a full roster of his own guys so they line of questions will be completely different.

I'm going to wait to celebrate "20 Wins" until after our next victory. We only have 19 wins against Division 1 competition.
