Do we really need to play this game? Do you not see the same reality I do? If you haven't noticed the pieces who would be great building blocks for next season, then I'm not sure what to say.
It was a simple question. If you don’t want to answer it just say that. You suggested good pieces wasn’t going be here next season bc of money when money isn’t the issue for this team.
JD, Teel (if eligible), Camp, Jayan, and I'd put Vorst and LeGree in there too. That's at least a workable core to try and build around for next year.
I don't mind answering it....just figured you were being a smart ass, sorry. I have zero inside information. I just listen to guys talk and watch what happens around me. Teel, Daughtry and Wagner likely have played above our pay rate and I expect another school to offer them substantially more. There is always the chance they don't go to the portal, but seems unlikely these days. It's a money grab and they get as much as they can.
Teel is not. The others I think agree.

This is spot on. It doesn't matter how much a player likes being at a school, likes a coach, likes the community...whatever. If someone comes along and offers to double or triple your salary, during the one point in life you have a chance to make money playing basketball, you're probably going to take it.
Now are their outliers? Sure. And is a player going to bounce for an extra $5-7k? Probably not. But you've gotta be at least in the ballpark.
I had no reason to be a smart ass even though I’m pissed about the L. None of the players here are going get anything outside maybe JD. I’m not even worried about the portal. We don’t have a good to elite team to even worry about that.
I mean if you can afford to keep those 5, bring back 1-2 other guys as depth pieces for super cheap, pay out some money in the portal for 1-2 starter quality guys, and hit on a freshman recruit or two...that's a roster that can challenge for top 4 next year at least.
We will just have to disagree then. If you think teams won't want Teel or Wagner I guess we haven't watched the same guys. We have pieces to build around....as long as you could keep them. We just need to go after a couple more solid pieces....but thats where our money shortfall comes into play. We cannot start over every frickin' year, like this year and expect success. The way coach says he wants to play needs continuity, atleast somewhat. This read and react style takes time and familiarity. When you can keep some key pieces together it makes a huge difference. Look at Drake this year.
Teel is not eligible. If Wagner were to enter the portal of course any team can take him but I’m willing to bet there will not be a P4 team calling for him to jump in the portal after the season bc they are wanting to offer him more money. I’ll stand on that. Matter fact UE will have that problem with Pozzato, Turnbull, and Comer before any of our players. You are right that it takes time for our style of play but this season as far as the team goes we had some misses on players that just aren’t it.

I actually expect the team to improve in the off-season. That's my expectation for every under 20 win team. Refuse to believe NIL & the portal is the end of the program. Hope is alive.
This team can still be dangerous in Arch, if & only if they learn to play as hard as possible every possession. Gotta want it more than the opponent from tip to final whistle.

Teel would conceivably have two more years if the D2 gravy train gets approved. Played his first two years in D2.
Radio said Sycamores had a 7 game win streak until tonight.

Oh, Evansville will absolutely have that problem as well. Unless you have a very well funded NIL, every mid-major is going to have this problem with their top 2-3 prospects going into the next year.
I agree in that I wouldn't expect anyone to be getting a P4 call, but remember we only lost 2 guys to P4 programs last year. The other 3 key pieces ended up at high mid-majors/high majors that aren't P4.
The big concern isn't leaving for a P4. It's leaving for am offer to some A10, AAC, Mountain West, CUSA school that's going to pay them far beyond what we consider "reasonable". Or a MAC/Horizon/SOCON school comes in and offers them a big overpay to be a key piece on their team.
I'd say they're the closest thing to a rival we have in-conference...but not really a true rival.
It's a bummer that ISU doesn't really have a true rival. Ball State is the closest, but the fact that they're in different conferences along with BSU being a football school and ISU being a basketball school means that there's an imbalance in fan interest whenever the schools match up.
Bradley has always felt like way more of a hated rival, but they already have a clear rival. Butler was always a nice rivalry until they became "Butler".

Okay as for the game… 11 turnovers I can live with it. 22-26 from the line pretty solid. Had more assists than them. More fast break points - I had to double check that not sure how that is possible our fast break offense is awful.
All comes down tonight to defense and a team that just wanted it more and honestly played really well. I’m not sure I’ve seen a team hunt the rim that hard on us all night since maybe Ohio State they had guys in kill mode. We unfortunately did not. As well as Evansville played if they made half of their bunnies at the rim, they would’ve beat us by 15 to 20 I just thought they played really well and deserve a lot of credit… I also think this is one of the worst defensive teams at Indiana State that I’ve ever watched. We ain’t got anybody on this team that can play a lick of defense. It’s awful.
