Of course the two teams I was kind of interested in seeing us play against (UNM and UCI) are the two we don't get 🙄.

I see Illinois State is playing at Kentucky this year. Why can't we get a high profile game? What's the excuse (other than a team doesn't want an ass whoopin')

Is it just me or does anyone else find it odd that the Vegas Ball Dawgs Classic is not a tournament. Just a daily matchup of various mid majors on a neutral court. Is this how we have to get teams to play us ? Is this the only way we get to schedule other mid or high majors? We win three games in a row over three days and come home without a trophy or bragging rights? Is this the new norm?

I don’t think it’ll ever be the norm…I think it does have a weird feel to it. But in the end you never get to play everybody in a normal MTE anyways.

There’s only 6 teams so couldn’t do the tourney thing. Who knows why they couldn’t get two more teams??? Could’ve been money but also could’ve just been late to the party and not very many teams left to invite.

From a competitive standpoint, I don’t like the non-tourney aspect. At least, I think I prefer that there would be a champ. But I also consider that it doesn’t matter as much as we want it to. For example, if you care about the quality of your schedule over other things then you’ll notice that the “best” path isn’t always the one that leads to the championship.

Random note that may not matter, indiana state might have the worst mte schedule (of the 6 participants) if we judged it by 2022 net rankings or kenpom. Plenty of reasons why that may or may not mean anything.

So here is what I've compiled and where I'd expect to see a few more adds. We had 11 non-conference games last year IIRC and we currently have 9 so we'd need 2 more to get to that number this year:

TBD - Exhibition vs D2/D3
11/10 - at Alabama
11/14 - vs IUPUI
TBD - I'd assume we'll get a D2 warmup heading into the MTE
11/21 - vs Rice (Ball Dawgs Classic - Las Vegas)
11/22 - vs Pepperdine (Ball Dawgs Classic - Las Vegas)
11/24 - vs Toledo (Ball Dawgs Classic - Las Vegas)
12/5 - at Northern Illinois
12/9 - vs Southern Indiana
12/16 - vs Ball State (Indy Classic - Indianapolis)
12/19 - vs Tennessee State
TBD - Game here before heading into MVC play

Thanks for making the list. I believe they are maxed out at 11 non-con games with the new 20 game conference schedule. 31 total games before conference tournament.

Thanks. I thought it was 11 D1 games and that the in-season D2 game did not count towards that. I'll see if I can find a definitive on that.

I see where Southern Indiana is going to play at Michigan State in November. Wish we could get MSU on our schedule.

There is no legit easy way to google that information. Kind of puzzling. You either know or just count games. It was 31 games plus the exhibition vs tusculum last year.

-source. Trust me, bro. 😂

I remember seeing a chart of some sort on a D1 Council NCAA page that had all of that info but it was several years ago. It basically as a "scheduling for dummies" page for coaches where it showed every kinda of combo you could have. Like X games if you play a 3 game MTE, X games if you play a 2 game MTE, etc.

But that was before they changed the conference slate like you mentioned.

I know it was mentioned somewhere about mvc requiring all schools to participate in mte. Kind of makes sense because you cant play as many games without an mte. Not a coincidence that new mtes keep popping up each year.

Unfortunately I always remember it's 31 total because of Wichita State. They were 34-0 after beating us in the championship game, so subtract the 3 Arch Madness wins from that and you get 31.
