So here is what I've compiled and where I'd expect to see a few more adds. We had 11 non-conference games last year IIRC and we currently have 9 so we'd need 2 more to get to that number this year:

TBD - Exhibition vs D2/D3
11/10 - at Alabama
11/14 - vs IUPUI
TBD - I'd assume we'll get a D2 warmup heading into the MTE
11/21 - vs Rice (Ball Dawgs Classic - Las Vegas)
11/22 - vs Pepperdine (Ball Dawgs Classic - Las Vegas)
11/24 - vs Toledo (Ball Dawgs Classic - Las Vegas)
12/5 - at Northern Illinois
12/9 - vs Southern Indiana
12/16 - vs Ball State (Indy Classic - Indianapolis)
12/19 - vs Tennessee State
TBD - Game here before heading into MVC play

So just updated this. Some rumors out there we'll have a nice matchup after 12/19.

Official start of season is nov 7. The game vs Alabama is on the 10th. Anybody else bothered by this even a little bit? I think ISU has played opening day most of the time. I’m wondering if the non d1 game is actually the 7th. I think I’ll survive either way but don’t like the late start. Carry on. ✌️

Not a chance IMO. They need to travel for the Friday matchup and that would give them little turnaround and prep time into a big time opponent. Zero value.

Just want to clarify that I messed up the start date of the season. It’s Monday the 6th. I could see that being a reasonable non d1 slot since the Alabama game is Friday. Monday to Friday can’t be too bad when you consider that’s pretty similar to the formula for a lot of teams to start the year. I’m not saying it has to be that way but there really isn’t much wiggle room and the opening day of bball is a glaring hole in the isu schedule.

Thought this tool was pretty nice… Here’s a link where you can easily scroll through all mvc team schedules. Just scroll down to Missouri valley and you can easily compare team schedules without having to sort through multiple sources. Some schedules are still a work in progress.

Im really bored and started looking at other mvc schedules to see where the other teams had holes for mvc games. I think we are looking at the slot after the vegas games for a conference game at the end of nov/ beginning of December. (Last year, ISU’s early conference games were nov 30 and dec 7.)

Looking at everyone's schedules I have to say that the Western Kentucky @ Murray State matchup might be the most intriguing game so far. I'm not sure they've played each other for a while, but it used to be a big rivalry game, and honestly those two schools should be playing each other every year.

Just for fun, my interest level on each game rated 1 (lowest) through 10 (highest).

Alabama=6: I'm expecting a loss, but I'm curious to see how we look against a top 25 team.

IUPUI=6.5: I'm typically very interested in in-state matchups, but IUPUI has been so awful lately that I will be extremely disappointed if we don't crush them. Gave it a half point higher than Bama, because losing to them would be pretty embarrassing.

Rice, Pepperdine, Toledo=4: Lumping these three schools together. I personally don't care about any of these opponents, and the fact that it's not a tournament doesn't help my interest level any. If I was Jason and lived in Las Vegas my interest level would easily be a 10.

NIU=5: If we keep scheduling them consistently my interest in this matchup would likely be higher. I consider Illinois my second home state since it's so close to Terre Haute, but Chicagoland might as well be another state, and I have no attachments of any kind to that region.

USI=9: In-state matchup. Interested in getting revenge and beating them. I'm also interested because of the EIU / OVC connection, which I admit does nothing for pretty much everyone else.

Ball St=8: In-state matchup in Indy. Wouldn't at all be opposed to playing them twice a year, which I think would help restore the rivalry that has been slowly dieing for years.

Tennessee State=8: OVC school, which like with USI, matters to literally no one except for me. If they weren't in the OVC I'd give them a 4.

Potential D2 Opponent(s)=2: Some D2 schools are actually half-way decent. If we have to play a non-D1 game I can live with us scheduling a D2 team, but I'd still prefer that we didn't (unless it's an exhibition game).

Potential D3/NAIA/non-NCAA=1: Literally don't care at all, other than the final score and that we win big. Likely not attending unless I get a free ticket.

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Head Coach Josh Schertz and the Indiana State men's basketball program announced the 2023-24 nonconference schedule on Monday morning. The 11-game slate will feature four games inside the Hulman Center, while road trips to Alabama and Michigan State highlight the road portion that also includes the Ball Dawgs Classic in Las Vegas and the Indy Classic against Ball State.

Not a bad schedule, but Saint Mary's of the Woods, really??? 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
We should be embarrassed to even have them on the schedule. Let me guess, Rose Hulman will be the exhibition game. I mean why not? 🙄

SMWC - It is what it is
Alabama - Buy game vs top 25 program - Great
IUPUI - I have no qualms with playing 1 or 2 of either IUPUI, IPFW, Eastern Illinois every year.
Pepperdine - About as good of a MTE as you are going to get these days
Rice - About as good of a MTE as you are going to get these days
Toledo - About as good of a MTE as you are going to get these days. I'd love to see Toledo on our schedule more in the future
NIU - Regional game against a MAC opponent, no issue here.
Southern Indiana - A game that should be on our schedule every year from here on out
Ball State - A game that 1000% should be on our schedule every year
Tennessee State - Is this a buy game for us? Not a bad game considering IUPUI is the only true D1 "cupcake' on our schedule
Michigan State - Cherry on top to really make this a nice non-con schedule for us. This should be a fun game for college basketball purists and historians.

Overall a great schedule regardless but it's pretty impressive to put this together with the current climate of college bball

Overall I'll give the schedule a 6.5 out of 10. All of high caliber games are neutral site or on the road. Biggest home game is against USI, who I think we should play every year, but a transitioning D1 school shouldn't be our highest caliber home game.

We need to call some of these schools:
Western Kentucky
Middle Tennessee
Ohio
Kent St
Toledo (I want to play them here, not in Nevada)
Akron
South Dakota State
Tulsa
Oral Roberts
Chattanooga
East TN State
Morehead State
Marshall
Furman
Wofford
Buffalo
UTEP
New Mexico State
Wyoming
UAB

Would you prefer Truman State, Maryville, etc?

Almost every MM schedules one non-D1 game. We're helping out a new program that just happens to be in town and we'll likely help out, has our former AD, etc.

FFS some of you.
I'll take any GLVC school over SMWC in a heartbeat. At least they're D2. ISU has zero business playing D3, NAIA, and whatever SMWC is. Trinity Christian last season was a complete joke too, same as Hanover the year before that.
