Control the ball and score something, preferably touchdowns.
If your running back is busting 50+ yard runs on multiple occassions, that notion is difficult to convert to reality.

I feel like I'm in a time warp and listening to Colt fans eight years ago as they debate whether or not quick strikes by Peyton Manning and Marvin Harrison are good or bad for the team.

They were bad for the team as the defense was not strong enough, that is why they had to go to a more control offense. If you have a strong defense then quick scores are ok, but if you don't chances are you will be in a shoot out.
That's your strategy and I respect that but I think coach miles strategy was, team with the most points wins the game. What do you want shakir to do? Take a knee?
You responded to a statement about the Colts and Manning to Harrison eight years ago. Not about today.I don't get this line of thinking. How do you even control something, when you're scoring 60 yard TD's... on a RUNNING play. It's not like ISU was out there throwing 40+ yard bombs all day.
Did you want Bell to fall down after 25 yards so they could run some more plays?
I always thought the point of football is to put up points. If you want to run the ball, fine, but you're running the ball with the goal of putting up points. And if your RB happens to average over 10 yards a carry, well then your defense just needs to go out there and perform.
You can't hide a defense in football. They have to be able to perform.

The Colts started to hide their defense by going to a more ball control offense and not trying to score in 45 seconds and putting their defense back on the field. You hide a defense by controlling the line of scrimmage and driving the ball down the field scoring something, hopefully a touchdown. You take up 6-8 minutes and it puts pressure on your opponent to score something. Now they won't have time to run 90 plays.
And you don't hide your defense by trying to grind the clock. You put up whatever points you can and make the other team match you. Today, YSU almost did, but they threw a pick late and it cost them. That's what you hope for. If we didn't have all of those points racked up they would have easily outscored us in this game.
Our defense has to play better. Has to make more stops. I think we can all agree on that.

Plus one. It all starts at the corner position today IMO. I was seeing some mental errors by our corners (bad angles, footplacement, down and distance mistakes on press or backoff coverage) which caused our bane of existence to show up (short passing game)
The misdirection plays have been killing us, too. Interesting stat. They averaged five yards per carry and per pass.
hahahahahaha so truewow, two years ago we would have been happy if isu only lost by a couple of touchdowns to a top 25 team. Now people are complaining because we didn't when by a big enough margin. Isn't it great to have a good football team to argue over for a change:footballhelmet:.
