Where did you get that? It doesn't say that in the article, does it?
This is just my opinion of the whole situation. Obvisouly something changed for him to decide to transfer and play his last year somewhere else.

If he never got hurt, this isn't a topic any of us our discussing as he would of exhausted his eligibility this year. Plus, I'm not sure the extra COVID year for 2020-2021 season was necessary considering a champion was crown. In my opinion, if a COVID year was going to be given it should of been for 2019-2020 season where there was no NCAA tournament. Most programs played a full season in both of those years and only one year didn't have an NCAA tournament.

I like Tyreke, really appreciated his effort and being a good human being while also a top level MVC player. However, i don't buy the being rushed to make a decision. He had all kinds of time to choose what he wanted, getting down to the end of the season the staff needs to know if they have to fill his spot or not. It probably has a lot to do with Key being quiet and shy and coach being forthright and bold. It is what it is i guess, but Key makes it sound like he was treated poorly and i dont think that could be further from the truth.
Can't LIKE this post enough. My sentiments exactly!!

I disagree. What it sounds like is the school was rushing him to make a decision not Schertz. Key did not make it sound like he was treated poorly. And if there was poor mistreatment ISU isn't going to own up to it anyway.

I will have to disagree with you then. You don't make comments like "I would probably still be there if...." if you don't feel like you were mistreated. He can feel however he wants, but the gist is Tyreke wanted to go "Big Time" to prove himself, but he also doesn't want anyone to dislike him....i.e. the Sycamore Fanbase. Don't misunderstand me, he has every right to do that if he wants, but just say that and stop looking for a way to make it look like you wanted to stay, but had to make a "rushed" decision. There, I have shared my thoughts and i am moving on. Looking forward to next season....it should be entertaining, if not more.

You can make that comment and not feel like you were mistreated. For example "I would probably still be there if we didn't play like trash this past season". But Tyreke isn't going to say that. If he didn't consider staying he wouldn't of said that and just moved on.

TN has a good team, I saw them get beat in a nail-biter to Michigan in the tourney. It will be interesting to see if he can be a regular on the vols. Best of luck, but all this speculation is a drag, if he doesn't what to be here who cares don't let the door hit you in the a...

I think we can or we should all agree on the following:

1. Had the NIL been in place 12 months ago then Tyreke would have likely been out the door last year and we would have been having this conversation 12 months ago rather than now.

2. Tyreke was rumored to have been offered $50k from Indiana State. $100k from Texas Tech and likely the same or more from Tennessee. Assuming those numbers are accurate it was always about the money - I don't care what he or anyone else has to say about it.

3. JS would have probably been better off keeping his mouth shut and not talking about "people in his ear" to the Tribune Star. While we as fans appreciated his candidness I'd say that those direct comments were probably the end of Tyreke Key and Indiana State. I am not sure that JS would have said anything differently - but in my opinion he didn't handle it very well...

Because everyone immediately jumped right to "GL must be the one in his ear"... Since JS wasn't very clear in WHO exactly might be in his ear. I've heard from several reliable sources that it wasn't GL. So those comments seemed to do much more harm than good if he had any hopes that Key was going to stick around. Any sort of noise like this was NEVER going to resonate well with Key - it brought negative attention to him even if that wasn't the intent. Buh Bye once that happened.

Well said. Don't forget ISU Compliance was tweeting about "tampering" the same day Tyreke announced he was leaving.

Right... If you are going to have that sort of thing play out in the Tribune Star and then on Twitter - you better have some hard evidence that you're willing to come forward with either to the public or to the NCAA. Because if accurate it would have likely been brought to light to the public by way of an NCAA suspension for players or coaches or coaches that were former players or whoever...

It wasn't handled well. But Tyreke will never go into sales - we knew this. He's not selling me on some BS about he would have likely stayed here and it wasn't about the NIL yadda yadda yadda. It was absolutely about the NIL, the opportunity to play closer to home and the opportunity to play for a P5 - we made it convenient for him to be able to point the finger back at us.

Bingo..Not mad him for leaving, I'd probably do the same thing in his situation..Offered 50+K more to go back home and play close to family?? I don't see any issue with that, but don't play the "if i wasn't rushed" card.. I thought a telling part of the back and forth was Golden throwing out there the date in which JS claims Tyreke told him he was leaving via text..This was BEFORE senior night and the interview where JS talked of tampering. This would of been BEFORE ISU supposedly "rushed" him to make a decision on what to do with senior night..

Now as SSOM said, don't go public with tampering talks unless you plan to do something about it..JS screwed up with that one, but after reading this and thinking about it logically?? This is and always has been about the NIL and the opportunity to go back home.

And with all that I'm closing the chapter on Key and moving on..One of better Sycamores to lace them up in the past 20 years and a great kid, just stinks that he'll be remembered in a slightly less flattering light by some given what transpired over the past few months.

Yep. I had a similar takeaway but this summarizes it pretty well actually.

Although I’m not real RaRa on the thank you for your contributions and best of luck piece… I’m not wishing him any harm - but I’m like quickly moving on in this current landscape without any emotion toward these players what-so-ever. It will be hard to ever really like any of these guys too much - why put your fan emotions on the line like that. I’m good.

This is one of the sadder parts of the new college landscape...

Didn't he say he felt "rushed" when asked about SR night? He certainly would have been insulted if they had NOT asked him about SR night.

Good point.

I think you either do away with "Senior Night" all-together. Only honor seniors who have been in your program for 4 full years. Perhaps do senior night after the first home MVC conference game. That way the "timing" issue never gets brought into play again.

But it really just further illustrates that timing is just a lame excuse... You could point to so many other things at play here other than timing and senior night.

theirs no loyalty, no respect for the program, ISU, we gave him an opportunity and he ran with it!!!
U think he will ever get a banner up in the stands ??? like Bird, Nicks etc.

Anybody sip a few suds w/ GL last weekend while he was visiting in the 'Haute? Ironic timing, wouldn't ya say? Interesting that Key mentioned contact w/ his HS & AAU coaches over his decision. What REASONABLE-thinking mind would exclude his 4-yr. collegiate coach? Btw, how many yrs. did JS coach down in TN? Don't think he has EARS in that state?

That is ironic. I didn’t hear or know he was in town…

But what isn’t ironic is that Junior Sumner a really good friend of Lansing’s dad Ray “Pappy” died a week ago and services were last week. I don’t know if he attended services earlier in the week or not but if he wasn’t able to I can almost assure you he was in town to see Junior.

If you’re going to conclude that him being in town had something to do with Key - I’m going to come to an entirely different conclusion.

You know it’s a lot bigger world than Indiana State Basketball and Key. He literally could have been in town for many reasons - Indiana State and Key would be pretty far down on my list of possibilities. But good try.

Guys, there is no loyalty in college athletics. Those days have been long gone. Enjoy the players while they're here. When they decide to move on, focus your energy on the guys that are still here or coming in.

I said this to several FB parents on here a long time ago and it still rings true. Was something along the lines we'll still be here after your four years are done. It's proven true time and time again.

Unfortunately, the days of loyalty in the world in general is becoming a thing of the pass. Everyone is in search for greener pastures.
