Speaking of Indiana State…I have heard from a bunch of people that CSA has this search, and that it’s flying. Sounds like Zoom’s are already underway, and that current ISU interim head coach Matthew Graves is in the mix. Graves has been at Indiana State since 2021 as the associate head coach, and also spent five seasons as the head coach at South Alabama (2013-18). Working on other names now – sounds like it’s a pretty small group.

Your source may be right in the end but I can assure this situation is fluid as they are still talking to other candidates as we speak.
While the portal closes on 5/1, that just means players can no longer enter it. You can still (re)sign players moving forward after that date. While time is of the essence, I just wanted people that may not realize that the portal closing doesn't mean you can't (re)sign players.
The bigger issue the incoming coach will have to navigate is the recruiting calendar periods. Dead Period runs through the 11th and then you have Recruiting Period until April 30th. Once May 1st hits, the portal closes so you can still work but it moves to a Quiet Period through June 30th, which means you cannot go off campus for any in-person visits and everyone would have to come to you.
All the while, July is when peak AAU season is hitting so you really need to be on the road working on your next class.

Hiring Graves is the "ISU way of doing business". You hire a search firm to look like you are doing something, spend a little money you don't have, announce you are leaving the hire up to an INTERIM AD who has never made a decision of this size. She does the easiest thing in making him the coach. All the while you have one possibly two ex-coaches and an outgoing president trying to blow up your program from within. But it's inevitable so guess as Bobby Knight said i guess its time to set back and enjoy it.
Have a little more faith in Angie Lansing. Sounds to me like she's doing it the right way. Might still end up with Graves, which wouldn't be terrible, but she's definitely shaking the trees.
If they were “just” going to hire Graves they would have done it already. They are doing the best the can with a limited amount of time to work with and a great deal of public pressure and scrutiny. This is not what you sign up for - this is a very unique circumstance.
I’m guessing Graves would love the job but would also not want the job just handed to him - he should want and respect InState to run a quick process to make sure that is the direction they want to go.

Thanks for the clarification. I didn’t know that. I just hope we aren’t hindered too bad from this situation. I’ll be happy whoever we get.

Thoughts on how long this search will take?
If anyone starts hearing names please provide ASAP. Curious who's in the running besides Graves.
Next year should be fun for parents!

Dad: son I’m sorry they all left and went to other teams.
Son: Well who will I cheer for then?
Dad: I don’t know son we will find out together - maybe the other team will have some good players.
Son: I’m just going to stay home and play Mario Cart.
This is about how I envision things going for parents and young fans. Making light of it but hate this system and this outcome to my core - if I was gutted in St Louis after the loss to Drake now I’m just completely pissed off.
One thing is for certain... this has likely ended fans buying player-related NIL merchandise.
I just hope we still have a few basketballs left to use after this day is done. Talk about a complete rebuild. That 2nd time transfer rule fucked us to no end. We would of had Kent, Conwell, and Swope staying and then just figuring out Avila and Larry. We would have been running it back with a top 25 team. Now we are left with....I don't even know what's left of the program. Thank God Schertz left it better than he found it or we would really be screwed
