I get he’s not seeking money, however 2.5M vs 800k is nothing to sneeze at. He would probably get 5 yr 12.5M guaranteed vs 5 yr 4M. That’s a hard number to turn down for anyone. I hope he stays and I will up my NIL contributions when/if he does.

DeVries is a much better fit for SLU than Schertz is.
You have to make this sentence Plural Jason. The DeVrieses are a better fit at SLU than HCJS. With Darin you have the Tucker factor of him tagging along that would be worth more than just him alone in both rebuilding a program and getting Daddy more money.

Right right... But if he makes a run this March - more likely he duplicates his success here this year and makes a run again next March then he opens himself up to even greater earning potential. Even with the portal - it's almost impossible to have an immediate 180 turnaround. It would take him a couple years at SLU at DePaul etc. - where here he might just be a tournament run or two away with the pieces in place. My point is - assuming all his pieces come back it would be very shortsighted to be looking to make a cash grab right now. Some examples of some jobs that could open up between now and next year:

Cronin isn't in the best spot right now at UCLA that's a $4.1 million historic gig... Makes for a pretty good backstory too. Josh Shertz follows in the footsteps of the great John Wooden. Indiana State to UCLA...

Kevin Willard at Maryland coming off a 16-16 season makes $3.9 million and you can coach at a once great program in one of the most respected / overrated conferences in America the B10.

Same for Juwan Howard at Michigan who makes $3.6 million and will be lucky to survive his 8-24 season at Michigan.

I'm not sure that the Dana Altman seat at Oregon isn't getting a little warm. Unless they make a run in the P12 tournament they are on the outside looking in. Altman makes $4 million annually and Oregon has hired from the MVC once before what's to say they wouldn't do it again? It's worked out pretty good for them with Altman.

I can keep going... My point is simple, I'm giving JS the benefit of the doubt that he can see that SLU and DePaul in the grand scheme of things is not where he should be hoping to make the next step in his coaching career. He's getting too much national recognition for the job he's done in 3 years at Indiana State. It can't be just about the money.

Also, the argument for Darian to be hired because he brings Tucker for a single season can probably be negated because Schertz bring with him a built-in “son” (Robbie) for two more seasons.

Just a thought as I obviously am hoping for everything to go our way: make NCAAT this season and Coach and “The Five” to return. Just prepping, ya know?

I was more pointing to the fact he has essentially spent his entire life coaching at privates. There are some different challenges that it can present. Not that HCJS couldn't navigate them, but they're there.
Yepp. I agree on the private fit at SLU and Midwest ties. Mine was more of DeVries vs. Schertz in general for any opportunity (1 yr for Tucker and 2 for Buckets).

Good God! As fast and furious as the coaching movement is, I can only imagine what the player portal is going to look like!

Anyone worried about Vandy with Coaches success in Tennessee?
They're a school with serious NIL fundraising problems, they're second tied in their own state in the SEC. They're really the DePaul of the SEC. Anyone who takes that job is going to have serious challenges

oh I agree 110% with all that but I know I've heard Josh say multiple times hoe much he loved living in Tennessee. I doubt he would take it either but I think there is a better chance of Vandy than Louisville honestly.
