WANTED: Passionate Sycamore Fanatics. That You?

Register NOW to join our community of die-hard Sycamore fans.

You’re saying keep football because of homecoming? One day out of the year? That is your rationale? Come on now BobbyK. A bunch of college students buying $3 keg beer.

Trust me when I say this BobbyK because I’ve lived here my entire life most of the hotels and restaurants around here are going to be near capacity with or without HC. They might get a little bump but it’s not making or breaking them.

It’s got nothing to do with me being “right”. It will take years to know if it was the right thing to do or not. I might be on the right side of the decision but it doesn’t make me right about anything at all.

You mean like they already have? The most recent extension was private fundraising done by Clink and what got him fired because the totality of the raise would have made HCJS paid more than Deb and she lost her shit. Additionally, our NLI program has already raised several hundred thousand that has been distributed to the current roster.

Again, you're being disingenuous and know damn well what we're talking about here. We spend between $4 and $5 million annually on football. You can make a very strong argument it has no return on investment, and quite possibly a negative return on investment because of how bad it has been historically. Additionally, over the last decade plus, each football win comes at a cost of over $1 million dollars on average. On a level of football that nobody cares about on the national level which is about to be pushed down yet another tier.

If any program should be tasked with raising funds, it's from football and it's supporters. We've suggested a compromise of taking $1-1.5m away from football and diverting it to basketball and you guys weren't interested saying we weren't discussing the topic in good faith ourselves. As if.

Jason - again , kudos for trying to teach math, hell arithmetic to pigs... truly possess the patience of Job

Wouldn't homecoming during football season still be a thing if the football program was DII, DIII, or NAIA?

Div II, Div III and NAIA football is NOT an option for Indiana State unless you are prepared for the ENTIRE Sycamore Athl Department to move to Div II, Div III or NAIA.

Don’t know any of you, but I think we can all agree that we want the University to be great at everything. Love the passion but the argument never stops. What we need to do is support all athletes of all sports that we have. We have what we have until we don’t. The truth of it all, Money is the issue. We need more state support, we need more alumni funding and we need Jeff Bezos. If we donated 1 dollar for every time this goes down a dumb rabbit hole and pointless argument we would have it all.

Exactly what "state support" do you propose for athletic department support?

taxpayer funds don't support college sports

SSOM, you know more than anyone at ISU getting rid of football Won’t solve nothing. At The end of The Day, we are just Indiana State. Ya, amazing baseball and basketball for sure, but let’s get rid of football, and maybe SEC will ask us to join? Come- Fucking -On?

Have you had a stroke? Have you suffered some medical emergency?

Because your posts are off the fucking rails but keep posting -- always looking for a great laugh

Just DePaul's which sparked this off.

I don't see how Louisville doesn't make a change. I fully expect Boynton to get shitcanned at Oklahoma State. Just turned that game off it was so embarrassing. Ohio State is pretty likely considering the vote of confidence for Holtmann was the AD saying we'll evaluate the rest of the season. Probably Ford at SLU, too.

One more I'm watching now after he trashed his team during a presser is Cronin at UCLA.

You know if DePaul STILL had football, Stubblefield would still have a job in Chicago, damn those 1939 administrators... what the F*** were they thinking, cancelling football 85 years ago - DAMN THEM!

I learned something…I thought those tiny schools that play d1 hockey and d2 or d3 in other sports (ex: Minnesota-Duluth) meant it was possible…my bigger point was that the Football program isn’t really the big draw of homecoming weekend, it’s simply a part of it.

Yeah I’m not sure that’s accurate. Butler has a football team but it isn’t D1.

That’s wrong, states issue Bonds for Athletic facilities and improvements all the time.

Intercollegiate vs HS?

Does the State of Indiana do this?

If the State of Indiana does, it's "new" and if the State of Indiana doesn't -- who the F**k cares if the other 49 states do -- ISU can only deal with the State of Indiana

Here is a recent Indiana budget bill... I see 7 references to sports... fantasy sports, the indiana sports commission, motor sports commission, amateur (not intercollegiate or even HS) facilities and the DNR's Sportsmen Benevolence fund.

https://iga.in.gov/pdf-documents/122/2021/house/bills/HB1001/HB1001.06.ENRS.pdf

Please show me the State of Indiana appropriation to Intercollegiate sports facilities, scholarships, etc because it's well hidden

Just did some cursory digging. D2 doesn't officially have hockey and is not recognized as a championship sport. Also looks like some of those teams are grandfathered into their D1 allowance. Really weird.

Yeah I’m not sure that’s accurate. Butler has a football team but it isn’t D1.

Butler's football team has long been Div I; more accurately Div I-FCS non-scholarship.

"long ago" (past 25 years or so...) The NCAA required any/ALL Div I institutions that wanted to have a football team, it MUST field a Div I football team, no longer could they play at the div II or div III level.

So, Butler moved their then div II football team to Div I- FCS (non-scholarship); the ENTIRE Pioneer Football League is Div I-FCS non-scholarship... as is the Patriot League (or was at one time)

That allowance is basically (only) for Hockey and Lacrosse... both regional, niche sports...

Minn-Duluth in hockey and Johns Hopkins in lacrosse are the best examples... the reason?? Hockey and Lacrosse are niche, NON-Revenue sports

how is that more cost effective than moving to the Pioneer League?
I have zero clue if it is or isn't and don't give a damn. It was just a joke. What I will say is this...if given a choice to watch ISU football or SMWC sprint football, I'm heading west 12 times out of 10. They're much more exciting to watch to me and its not even close. And that is NOT a joke.

Gotcha -- I know sprint football is starting to grow, esp. in the Midwest... Not knowing your starting point, are you saying the P'Roys provide a more exciting product than than the Trees?
