Lutz would be very interesting - he seems to be the best of that group. But his age probably excludes him from consideration.

Lutz?? Gottfried has a better record and a higher level of play and is younger.

IF ISU has a new coach moving forward; grab someone with roots, ties to the Midwest and no one 60 and over need apply

I recall reading that issue when he landed in California; that FBI investigation hasn't pushed too many coaches out

Perhaps you shouldn't have "spit-balled" Gottfried on your list.

Of the 4 "interesting candidates" you provided - Gottfried has the best on-court performance.

At this point, I still think ISU should retain Lansing; I doubt they will and if LaRavia and other left in that wake, I will not be shocked.

I dun think u ain't 2 smart Bucko ...........

I have another one, sittin on the bench, if he was a bit older, and had more experience, how about home grown Jake Odum ? He would definitely be a fan favorite!!! Just a wild guess.
Its not like the old days when we went out and got a top notch coach called Bob King from University of New Mexico, he helped put ISU on the basketball map.
In todays, world money buys more than anything.
Lets just hope for the best. SycamoreinTexa, I luv yur statement.

Here's one that SSOM will like...ex-UE HC Marty Simmons down @ Clemson (current Asst to Brad Brownell). Wouldn't have to change a thing in the offense, but might have to arrange for an unlimited Dunkin agreement!

Don't count out a guy already on the bench. Kareem Richardson has head coaching experience.

I know it won't happen, but I'd consider Jake Odum. I know he doesn't have much experience but he brings a passion and energy you're not going to find in many other candidates. Should be a strong recruiter and be able to keep some of the current players. We need to give someone young a shot. We need to take a bit of a gamble with the next hire. Not play it safe and get someone who will just be a caretaker.

Odum?

He's 30 - Far. Too. Young.

Let him run a HS or JC program for a few years

I get that and maybe we can find another prospect with the energy and passion needed for a really tough job, but I'd really like it to be a first time HC. I don't want a guy who has already been through the ringer a few times and comes in like it's just another job.

Posted this in another thread but it's interesting...From a Purdue board

If Indiana State opens, Micah Shrewsberry would have been a damn near lock there if he wanted it. Now, with Penn State on the horizon, probably not happening.

Maybe Lutz can get in on it, but I’ve always imagined him getting something in Texas or elsewhere in that part of the country.

Painter’s word will carry a lot of weight in ISU’s search with Sherard Clinkscales being AD there.

the other part of this is that Matt Painter and Greg Lansing have a good relationship and I’ve always pegged him as a guy Painter might hire one day.

Sorry not buying the gospel you're trying to sell...

Sherman Dillard was our last "first time HC," we've had at least four

Dillard
Hodges
Marks
Bayh

It may be been fine in 1918 (Bayh) and 1927 (Marks) but it was a fluke for Hodges; Dillard definitely didn't set the world on fire for the Trees nor when he bolted for his alma mater (J. Madison) and that was after 15 years as an assistant from coach to coach, always at a "Power 5" school in two conferences.

What's the appeal of a "kid" with only 2 years as an Assistant under his belt?
