Biff would be a home run hire. I would be ecstatic if it's him.

If there's anyone who has the balls to make "the decision", it's him.

The hell with June 30, she needs to be sent on her way NOW! You damned sure don't let a top IT person hang around your company computers when they are on their way out; irreparable vindictive damage can happen. Company Presidents are in a position & can do that too & she gives all indication of being a vindictive person. Wake up people!

It blows my mind that the school would allow her to continue to be involved in any significant personnel decisions. This should be at the discretion of the incoming President unless there is something criminal involved.

At this point I would rather have the Chancellor from Wisconsin La Cross who got fired for making porn movies than Debbie if she had something to do with Clink leaving. He has been a lot better than we have had for years.

Does anyone have any confidence that the board of trustees will make the correct hire this time around? I get that the new president would almost have to try to do a worse job than Curtis has done, but that doesn't mean that they won't end up being a dunce either. It sounds like the BOT is as incompetent as Curtis.

One does wonder...

Well I can tell you that Jake Query from 1070 the Fan didn't talk to me but he talked to someone and he felt comfortable enough to say it live on 1070 the Fan in Indy... The football theory is what he decided to run with. He qualified it - that the theory is clearly just that a theory at this point.

Why this is interesting to me? Because outside of this forum - I don't know anywhere that dialog has taken place or could be coming from?

Thanks for sharing that. Very interesting. I also haven’t seen that theory anywhere but here.

The fact that 2 days later there’s so still no leaks on where Clink is going or a reason given does seem to increase the odds there’s legs to the FB theory.

Thanks for posting.

Glad he enjoyed his time and spoke glowingly about the arena. We really do have the best hoops facility in the Valley.

Yeah it was a nice little segment about InState and Terre Haute besides the drama... You know that's the thing about all this that I really have to say - you talk to folks at the Alumni Association like I do on the regular and things as far memberships and donor support are as good as they've ever been. You walk around town right now, go out to eat - you will see more fan gear than I can ever recall seeing before. Just a lot of positive momentum right now that you really need to be able to lean into and capitalize on! That becomes pretty difficult when all the administrative noise is negative and insanity all the time.

I have been in the position of being the head of an organization who left with a lot of time until my replacement started. I ended up working out a deal where after I started with my new company (not a competitor) that I was still available to my old organization while they completed the hiring of my replacement. I would go in once or twice a week for an hour or an afternoon and sign checks, return emails, and do basic stuff. Very basic stuff, and that was the expectation from all involved. There was zero chance I was going to make any major decisions or fire anyone (except for cause). Zero chance.

I have also been with companies that has had a senior leader (sometimes the president) who has announced a retirement for eight months or so down the road. The expectation is that the retiring person is going to be around less and less as they get close to the retirement date. They are not making any major decisions, nor are they firing anyone. And that it is how it works out.

I would be less surprised if we had heard she was hardly around any more, only shows up a couple times a month, only comes to BOT meetings, etc., than to hear that she was wanting to make a major decision and fired someone who didn’t want to do it. It is just unfathomable to me that is the case, especially if she is being forced to retire as we all assume. But unfortunately, unfathomable is what we’ve gotten used to these last few years. It has been beyond ridiculous, so the theory that she wanted to make a major decision and fire someone on the way out, is sadly, probably true.

The only thing that I will add to this because it fits in nicely here and I'm not sure if it's been mentioned.

The BOT does NOT have hiring and firing capabilities over anyone but the President. That said, when she signed her retirement agreement on December 15 it doesn't appear to me that the BOT put any restrictions on her ability to hire/fire or make decisions such as the ones you described. I can't believe they wouldn't have put any sort of verbiage in the agreement that any major hiring/firing decisions would need to go before the BOT for approval - why would they not put any language pertaining to that to offer some layers of protection to current employees?

Again, unfathomable. They really need to tell her that her time with the university has concluded, they will pay her until her announced retirement date, and name a handful of interim people who will handle the daily tasks of the university.

Seems that may be when she started her efforts to oust Clink.

I can't substantiate it but I heard that Clink knew on that very same date of December 15 that he would be pushed out... The timing is quite interesting.

Still think you've got to come up with "cause"? So what's it going to be?

- The Baseball regional theory?

- The fact that he was raising funds to get JS a raise and contract extension? I mean that happened in mid-October when he was extended through 2028 with a $65,000 annual bump.

- Or something else entirely? (Football theory)
