WANTED: Passionate Sycamore Fanatics. That You?

Register NOW to join our community of die-hard Sycamore fans.

Well it's no secret that God comes on this forum to get a barometer for what the rest of Sycamore Nation might be feeling - Todd has also been very vocal on this subject of "fans" on Twitter recently - so maybe he is being very general but I am not of that opinion.

One could also argue that the best worst thing that ever happened to this country was the internet. 15 years ago you didn't know a recruit had made a verbal until he had actually signed - thus a fan could never judge or be upset over a kid backing out and a kid could not go on the internet and make very positive remakes about his school of choice and then later change his mind and be judged for chaging his mind....

The group of fans on here took it very much in stride - I didn't see anyone on here who didn't wish him the best.

Same can be said for when RJ left - most people very thankful for his contributions here and hated to see him leave.

Todd has been vocal about what he thinks of the site on numerous occasions yet does exactly what you said. It's extremely hypocritical. Anyhow, you're spot on. There was a little on Twitter, but nowhere near the amount he'd experience the first time he missed a big shot if he went to play at Purdue, for example. That's just the name of the game and I don't think it bothers Bryant or any other top flight basketball player as much as the media makes it out to be. Sure, some do have fragile egos but those are the guys you don't want taking the shots in the first place. Bryant is not that kid IMO.

While our fan base is small, I wouldn't trade it for the world. What we lack in numbers we make up in knowledge, passion and genuine respect. Someone (hint: Bluethunder) made a very poignant comment to me when he told me about his visit to North Carolina and the Dean Dome. He mentioned how he looked up in the rafters and saw all of the retired numbers. Who really remembers or talks about James Worthy? Jerry Stackhouse? Vince Carter? To them, it's simply the "next man in" mentality and then once you're eligibility expires... hit the bricks because we've replaced you with 3 more McDonald's All-Americans. They're just another link in the chain.

Hell, John Sherman Williams gets talked about once a month on here and he has been gone for 30 years. We're small. We're different. We're not Indiana and we don't try to be... red is a HIDEOUS color. That is what I love about Indiana State and wouldn't trade it for the world.

Some of you non supporting members (hint, hint) PM'd me asking me about my personal feelings on the situation, do I think we still have a chance and the like. I would have felt more confident had he said that he was reopening but Indiana State remained his #1 choice and that he was simply taking visits to see if there was a better fit out there for him. The fact that we haven't been mentioned in any recruiting updates definitely gives you the out of sight, out of mind feeling even if it isn't the case.

While I have been told that we do still have a shot, I fully expect Bryant to land an offer from Purdue or Indiana. While he currently has offers from other big schools like Missouri, Auburn and Creighton, I think that distance may possibly be a factor in the final decision. If he does get the PU/IU offer, I'd expect him to commit, especially Purdue since he has said publicly that he likes Coach Painter, who was present at the Adidas Invitational yesterday to see him live. In the end, losing a player of Bryant's caliber is HUGE. How would we be without Odum? How would Evansville been the last four years with Colt Ryan? That is the magnitude of impact this loss has and I'd argue that it is even great having seen him play live all Summer.

Get ya some! Kid just picked up offers from some of the best hoop programs in the country and I never even got to see him play - can't say Jason didn't know it, he told me on several occasions I was going to like this one... Now I will have to like him for another team - good thing I don't like other teams though.

Sycamore or die.

What? Are you really trying to justify the use of physical abuse towards a child because the two men had issues? Ludicrous. Absolutely ludicrous.

Not at all. Just reporting the news. Sounds like the kid really did get the shaft by the folks up New Castle way.

This is such old news it is totally not relevant now as both sides have moved on. Bennett was a Bob Knight "wannabe" even though he would tell you that he hates BK. Bennett was a clone of BK ran his program with a iron fist and nobody dare get in his way. Bennett, like BK, had the right people in his corner, but this was the beginning of the end for him as his welcome finally wore out, In New Castle basketball is king by a long shot and with this incident along with vastly shrinking attendance his kingdom ran out and he retired last month. No McIntosh did not get a fair hearing but how could he the deck was stacked against him.

“The problem was I committed so early to ISU that I never got to get a good comparison with other schools. So I never knew if it was the correct fit for me. I just had an outstanding relationship with Coach Lansing,” McIntosh said.

I've yet to chime in on this, but I thought this quote from the Trib Star article was interesting. Taking my emotion out of the situation, I can see where he's coming from. He committed to ISU because he had a connection with Greg Lansing, but eventually realized he never actually evaluated his "fit" with the team. Now, this could all be BS and just an excuse, but it's a good one.

Anyway, time to move on.

When I think back on the recruits we've landed over the past few years, most don't seem to come from long courtships like with McIntosh. Most seem to kind of come out of nowhere, like with Burnett. For whatever reason, Lansing seems to do a good job of finding recruits on the fringe and sweeping in and getting quick commitments.

Hope this kid and his family remembers who wanted them a year ago when nobody else did. I feel for Lansing having put so much time and effort into one kid only to have him renig on his commitment.

It's my fault. Last November after I went to one of his games, I told Coach on here that he should camp out in his front yard.

Syc Pride needs to place your Camp Advisor certification on "probationary status"...
