Have a B.S. from ISU & taught in ND, TX, FL & IN. The so-called "shortages" are in pockets of America with varying disciplines, given the demographics of the specific area. Most of this "shortagism" is being driven by the leftist oriented AFT.

I haven’t been States- side in a few years. Where are the pockets of non-shortage? I am wondering what these spots have figured out(?)

pockets of "non-shortage"? borderline mythical... some states have effectively abandoned the concept of licensing... ergo, a pulse will get be the primary qualification to teach, especially in the lower grades

Low pay and morale, mounting political and academic pressures, health and safety concerns.

Here in Vegas, there were at least 4-5 instances this year where students beat the living shit out of teachers. There was one instance last year where a kid strangled and then tried to rape a teacher. Kids aren't going to school to learn. They're going for daycare and from everything I've read about it here, teachers are powerless.

Also, I've got no data to back it up, but it seems like kids are borderline illiterate anymore. Most I come across in the wild speak in text shorthand and it's like we're living in Idiocracy times. Brawndo baby.

Don't forget the 6-YO NOT A TYPO, 6-yo who shot his teacher in Newport News, Virginia this spring... administrators knew for most of the school day that the kid had a gun on him and REFUSED to search, even CONFRONT

The mother was (finally) charged earlier this month

There are "conservative" pockets in America that still have solid, log-cherished VALUES. As you recently saw in Nashville, even these are a rare life commodity. Loogootee, IN had a Gay Right's Parade last week...Newburgh has a Summer Parade that last 10 minutes.

Gotta rep the peers; though I'm betting the current Student Trustee is on a full, academic ride -- props to them for holding fast on the $$

I know the current Student Trustee's father - she is very intelligent and I must say, for a student to stand-up in the face of a lot of pressure and be in the minority on any vote is courageous and exactly what they need more of at Indiana State. I've sat on quite a few boards myself and you have so many people who just vote "yes" and stand for absolutely nothing... To see someone (a student no less) actually stand for something and not cave to the pressure of the room is solid.

Sad part is that the student trustee says that we need to grow revenue by increasing enrollment and shows she is the only one who gets it. Our “leaders” just offer blame and excuses.

Yeah, checked out her socials and she seems pretty put together. These are exactly the kids you should have as influencers for the school.

Per the online BoT bios page - isn't she due to move off the Board this year? Or was she re-appointed by Holcomb?

Some of you on here are on the Alumni Board. Have they considered a resolution or declaration about all of this?
